For my friend Emily, an undecided voter

My friend Emily asked why she should vote for Hillary Clinton. She believes, as many others do, that Hillary is a corrupt immoral politician who has broken the law repeatedly and gotten away with it. I could rebut the allegations of the last 40 years one by one with multiple links to smart people who make valid arguments defending each "gate" but that is boring and I don't think it would sway Emily or any others who harbor sincere doubts about Mrs. Clinton as a politician and a person. So, Emily, you challenged me to come up with a reason you should vote for Hillary and I promised you I would come up with an answer worthy of our 34 year friendship. I was thinking about this all night. I woke up early thinking about it (thanks daylight savings time), so here goes.

Five reasons Emily should vote for Hillary Clinton:

Reason one: You and Hillary have a lot in common aside from the obvious, you are both women. You have both had to work in male dominated fields and put up with the ingrained misogyny that still exists today, women work twice as hard for half the credit (and 70% of the pay). You are both parents of a single child who you love with all of your hearts and have sacrificed and struggled to raise with a good sense of morals and values. Hillary has been fighting for the rights of women, girls, and children here entire life. She got CHIP passed which gives insurance coverage to 8 million kids. You care about kids. You and she share that trait, you are both fighters. You both fight for what is right and never give up.

Reason Two: I honestly believe that Hillary shares many of the same qualities that you seek out in others. You said you respect me because you think I care about others and want to make a difference. Hillary does too. She has fought her whole life for improving the lives of other people; powerless people in the shadows who can't fight for themselves (the first job she took after law school was with the Children's Defense Fund). She is, according to those in her inner circle, fiercely loyal (hell, the fact that she is still married to Bill proves that) and a person who makes lifelong bonds and commitments. But don't take my word for it, listen to this young man who Hillary first met 30 years ago.

Reason Three: She supports and befriends people who are sick. She wants everyone to have access to quality affordable healthcare. Like you, she is a compassionate woman who supports others in their time of need. I have seen how much you care for friends of ours who have been sick. I believe you both share a desire to help those who have been stricken with horrible illnesses. The Clinton Foundation has saved countless lives. It has provided low cost or free drugs that combat malaria and HIV-AIDS to literally millions of people in Africa and other impoverished countries.

Reason Four: Under Hillary Clinton, the LGBT community will have a strong advocate. I know you support our LGBT friends and family members. If Trump is elected, he has promised to roll back the progress gay people have made in this country in the last eight years under President Obama by nominating justices who will overturn decisions granting gay people the right to marry. Hillary will nominate Supreme Court Justices who will continue to do what is right on these and other important issues.

Reason Five: I saved the best for last. I know how much you care for animals. You started a charity because you care so much about dogs that you take your time to purchase hay and distribute it free of charge so outside dogs have a little bit of comfort during Oklahoma's harsh winters. I think you believe that the way we treat animals is a reflection on our humanity. So does Hillary. She actually has a platform on regulations she will try to enact to insure animals are treated more humanely from puppy mills to zoos and farms.

I think you and Hillary share more in common than you have been led to believe by those who hate her. I think you are both strong women who have tried to do good in this world despite, or to spite. those who tell you you can't. I believe both of you have the power to change our world for the better and both will use it to do so.

If you believe I care and want to make a difference in this world. If you believe I am smart and capable, if you believe that I am compassionate, if you believe I am honest, if you believe that I do my research, If you believe I am fair, if you believe I am an advocate for justice, then why is it so hard to believe I am with her? I believe strong women can change this world for the better. I believe in you, and I believe in Hillary.

undecided.

This election is a referendum on racism and sexism

It is that clear

by calling them sexists and racists. I think it is much better to appeal to the angels of our better nature.

8. At this stage, there are not any significant undecided voters. People know what they

are going to do. Someone who says they are undecided two days from the election either isn't going to vote, or doesn't want to tell you who they are voting for.

As to your point that I am calling them racists and sexists, what I am saying is exactly what this election is about. If they are offended by that characterization, what does that say?

As to you whole page and videos of what Hillary has done, if they haven't truly decided by now, that isn't going to change their mind in my view

This is amazing twin(we were born on the dame day)! You have tugged at all my heart strings with finesse, poise & speak with chosen words so carefully, yet with brutal honesty. This post is both reasonable & written with enlightening forethought. This is truly admirable. I want to be clear I never meant it to sound as though I was placing our 34 year friendship on the table as a "pawn" what I meant was if there was anyone capable of persuading me to reconsider my position, you were the only person that came to mind. Brilliantly done my dear!

While in the Senate in 2008, Clinton scored 83 on the HSLF scorecard. While serving as Secretary of State and First Lady, Clinton did not receive a score from the HSLF. Senator Clinton’s score was determined by the fact that she voted in favor of animals on four out of five animal rights issues that passed through the Senate in 2007. Additionally, she co-sponsored the following bills:

Senate Bill 311, a ban on the transport, possession, purchase, and sale of horses to be slaughtered for human consumption. This resolution passed and was made into law in April 2007.
Senate Bill 394 which required the humane euthanasia of livestock too sick or injured to walk, as well as strengthened penalties for violations of the Humane Slaughter law. This eventually passed and was made into law in March 2009.
Senate Bill 261 which would establish felony-level penalties for violations of the federal law on dog fighting, cockfighting, and other animal fighting. This bill passed and was signed into law in March 2007.

The reason she rec'd only an 83 was because she missed a vote =(

Which Clinton wins overwhelmingly, take a look at what happens when we elect Democrats and what happens when we elect Republicans.

Economy is in the dumpster and Bill Clinton wins in 1992. Conservatives predict economic disaster and tyranny.

Eight years later, every conservative prediction is wrong and we have unprecedented prosperity, peace and a budget surplus.

Bush/Cheney win a highly disputed election. 8 years later, we get economic chaos, the worst recession since the Great Depression, corruption that is not only the worst in American history, but possibly rivaling all previous corruption combined. Endless war and massive deficits. In every category imaginable, they turn out to be worse than even the most pessimistic predictions.

We elect Obama and again the conservatives predict certain doom and economic collapse. Eight years later, the unemployment rate is under 5%, deficits have been drastically reduced. Every prediction has been massively debunked by that persistent conservative annoyance called "Reality".

Why in the name of God would anyone continue to listen to the same politicians, pundits and imbeciles that have been historically wrong on an epic scale?

Please say the following to your friend: "Emily, I don't need to talk to you about Hillary's last 40 years because I would like to talk to you instead about Trump's last 40 years, and you, after that, please tell me if if you think he is corrupt and immoral or not?" I really don't get why Hillary is always the only one labelled as crooked, corrupt, and immoral....just look at Trump!!!

And, if your friend says that she doesn't need to hear anything about Trump's last 40 years because he wasn't in office, please tell her that those years still reflect who is he is as a person. And, it is that same person, if elected, who would be sitting in the White House!
