End this misogynistic horror show. Put Hillary Clinton in the White House

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/nov/06/hillary-clinton-white-house-donald-trump-bullying-barbara-kingsolver?CMP=share_btn_fb

While Clinton holds her head high, why are we not exploding with anger at Donald Trump’s bullying?

Hillary Clinton has honoured the rules of civic duty and met the prerequisites for a candidate, bringing a lifetime of pertinent experience, an inquiring mind, a record of compassionate service and a sound grasp of our nation’s every challenge, from international relations to climate change; her stated desire is to work hard for our country and its future.

Her opponent has no political experience, a famously childish temperament, no interest in educating himself on any subject, a manifest record of shortchanging employees, bankrupting businesses, cheating on wives, dodging taxes and serving absolutely no one but himself. His mission is to elevate the self-regard of some Americans by degrading many others, including Muslims, Mexican immigrants, people with disabilities, residents of African-American communities, women he finds beautiful and women he does not.

I’m horrified to watch the bizarre pageant of my nation pretending these two contenders are equivalent. No one really imagines Donald Trump applying himself to the disciplines of the presidency, staying up late reading reams of legislation, instead of firing off juvenile tweets. It’s even harder to imagine Clinton indulging in the boorish self-aggrandisement, intellectual laziness, racism and vulgar contempt for the opposite gender that characterise her opponent. If anyone still doubts that the inexperienced man gets promoted ahead of the qualified woman, you can wake up now.
...
The men orchestrating this misogynistic horror show have combed every inch of Clinton’s lifetime of service looking for some dark deed, finding nothing worse than a mistake about email handling for which she has accepted responsibility and submitted to an exhaustive investigation that found no harm done. (I marvel at her decades of perfect caution. What other person alive could come through such scrutiny without deeper embarrassments?) They’ve broken into her private exchanges, the legal equivalent of burgling and rifling the drawers of her home, dragging stolen goods through the public forum with barefaced entitlement. Through it all, Clinton holds her head high and carries on as if this is the way of campaigns.

It's been a disgusting travesty and like Barbara says a horror show.

I'm reminded of the famous Joyce line (Ulysses, I believe) 'history is a nightmare from which I'm trying to awake.'

Hopefully we'll awake from this freak show feeling rejuvenated.

And of course live to fight on, as always.

I've had President Obama's back for eight years.

If Hillary is elected I'll have hers too.

I despise the snotty ignorance of folks who keep trying to put her down. They should stfu and try standing in her shoes. She's been a progressive her whole adult life.

During the Whitewater bullshit during her husband's presidency, the GOP's attack dogs really did burgle and rifle through the drawers of her home. Hillary Clinton is, without a doubt, the strongest person in the entire country. She isn't going to knuckle under to Vladimir Putin. She isn't going to wilt in the face of a national emergency. And she has PROVEN experience in working with politicians from both parties. There is no question who's ready to be president.

a "she" ...

Kingsolver was referring specifically in this piece to the FBI's going into Clinton's private email exchanges during this election cycle. But I certainly agree with your points about the shameful Whitewater episode and Hillary's strength.

On Quora there are a few "if the presidential candidates were __, which __ would they be, and why?" questions. So let's try one.

"If the presidential candidates were birds, what birds would they be, and why?"

Donald Trump would be a peacock. He struts around like he's the greatest thing in the world. But when confronted by the slightest problem, they haul ass. The only thing on a peacock that's worth shooting one for is the tailfeathers.

Hillary Clinton is a boiled owl.

damnedest to "normalize" the drumpf.

I have been exploding as I'm sure all of us have @ the admitted sexual predator and the stupid, derelict horserace pundits.

Like the woman in the audience shouted last night.. "Not your fault!" when Hillary gave her impassioned speech in Philly, and said she regrets deeply how angry the tone of the campaign became..

Hillary has been nothing but grace, dignity and strength from the very beginning.

Thank you for this, BlueMT!

disenchanted and disappointed with the M$ broadcast media as this year. The NYT and WaPo, along with some others, have redeemed print journalism somewhat.

But the hysterical anti-Hillary on-line headlines have been WAY OTT and it is only on DU, specifically in the HRC Group, and on some other sites - most recently "Pantsuit Nation" where one needs an invitation and someone to vouch for us for entry - that I even feel comfortable.

Fortunately, I have also been quite selective in my FB friends so I generally feel comfortable there. I must either know them personally or someone I know personally must vouch for them. Many may not agree with my political leanings, but we can at least be courteous in our disagreements. Surprisingly, even many of those I know who would ordinarily vote GOP, are voting for Hillary this time. Some others will not vote for her, but they absolutely refuse to vote for Drumpf.

They are thoroughly embarrassed and distressed by his candidacy - even though he is the epitome of today's GOP - which has become much different from the party I knew in my youth. Although conservative even then, it was never as hypocritical and its members did not consider the Republican party to be the refuge of RWNJs. They kept the John Birchers and others at bay. Now those factions control the GOP outright.

To say the group is a respite from the political hate that is swirling around Facebook would be an understatement. If Facebook could give warm hugs, they’d be packaged up in this group. In fact, the sentiment “this had renewed my faith in the internet” has been echoed so many times on this page, it’s hard to believe it exists in reality and not some uber-supportive digital dreamland.

Members of the group share personal stories they may not feel comfortable sharing with their own family members or Facebook friends. It’s a diverse lot — yes, there are Republicans around! Members share stories, support each other, and of course — encourage each other to wear pantsuits to the polls.

I was invited by one of my FB friends just two days ago. Wish that I had found it sooner because it is a lovely safe haven. If you're on FB, ask whether any of your friends are members. If so, they can secure an invitation for you.
