But year by year the kids coming up won't have this innate fear of the "other" that too many are clinging to now. For many it's below their level of conciousness, or it's a group thing. They don't see what we do yet.

I'm not sure how it isn't clear.

Many people are walking around who understand the basic concept of racism, fully understand it exists, but are oblivious as to its depth and breadth. As more people recognize the level of racism, the greater the chance we have at actionable legislation.

Example. Gay marriage. What was public opinion twenty years ago? Now, what has public opinion been over the last couple of years as historic change has been occurring. The masses began to recognize the injustice. That is a good thing. That is from grassroots activism changing minds.

The question is, why do you view someone's eyes opening on an important topic as a bad thing?

The point now is to enact legislation and transform our education system in order to better protect minorities from racism. It is the way we are going to eliminate systemic societal racism. Getting more to recognize as the op has here always helps.

first there was the birther issue. then on to mexicans, muslims, etc. and he still got so much support.

You think that neighbor, the guy at the supermarket you frequent, a good friend from your school days you found again on Facebook , a co worker that became a good friend, that close relative or distant one who tell you they support this evil racist man. It knocks you back sometimes. Because we know what he represents, pure unadultered racism.
