2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumName something POSITIVE about the election results in your state........
I'll start.......Kamala Harris is our new US Senator!!! She is likely to have a HUGE future in the party. Maybe she'll be the one to finally break the glass ceiling.

(28,394 posts)I didn't know the constitutional question had passed.
Weird ticket-splitting in PA though.
meow2u3
(25,251 posts)Those PA results were fishy AFAIC. There was no way Democrats would vote for both tRump AND Toomey while also voting for Dems for the row offices. Some man-in-the-middle attack had to be going on at the central tabulating machines, only it's tough to prove without subpoenaing the source code.

(10,856 posts)Though only by 5,000 votes and subject to recount, Pat Cooper has apparently defeated McCrory.
Also, Dems now have a majority on the NC Supreme Court, though that may be undone by a court packing scheme in which the lame duck gov appoints 2 Repub to the Supreme Court before he leaves office (unfortunately NC constitution would allow this).

(19,570 posts)I am not home much, but when I was, I chatted with Republican neighbors and acquaintances. Very low key chats about the candidates. It took a while, but several were convinced to vote for Clinton, and several said they would not vote for Trump. To me this is positive. I will do this one on one approach for the midterms.

Clinton got 54% to Trump's 42% in Harris County.
In a hotly contested race for Railroad Commisioner, the Democrat, Grady Yarborough, was victorious! That's a big deal because the RC deals heavily with the fossil fuel industry.

The measure empowered certain individuals, including police, family, and household members, to petition a court for an extreme risk protection order on a person ... The measure was designed to allow persons under order to request a hearing to argue that the order be terminated."

Walked in to Starbucks not wanting to connect with anyone....then realized..hey..the majority of people in my state voted for Hillary and we now have both state senate and house back to the Democrats again..and we voted an awesome Democrat for secretary of state... I then was able to lift my head and think...okay...we are going to make it through this...and start fighting....proceeded to pay for all my subscriptions to progressive voices (i.e. DU, TPM, etc). I'm here to help DU financially as much as I can...thanks all!

State Question 790 was designed to repeal Section 5 of Article 2 of the Oklahoma Constitution, which prohibits public money from being spent for religious purposes. It was defeated. (Hallelujah!)

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
