I Hope This Is The Forum To Bring This Up - EV Petition.....

This is the first chance I've gotten to sit down at the computer since DU came back up. Earlier in the day I found out DU was back up and logged in and changed my Password. Now I'm finally able to try and catch up on the posts here.

I don't know if this was brought up anywhere in the posts today - if it was I haven't stumbled on it yet.

I received an e-mail from a friend to inform me about this Electoral College Vote Petition (see below):

Go to CHANGE.ORG and sign petition for the Electoral College to change their vote(s) In some states they are not allowed to vote other than the outcome of the election in that state but in most states there is not that restriction. Over 3 million have signed the petition already. The Electoral College votes around Dec. 9th.

Is there any there - there? Is this for real? Can the outcome of this election be changed in the Electoral College?

I'm curious as to what the thinking is about this?

Again - I'm not sure if this was the place to post this - but it does deal with the campaign/election/postmortem.

Maybe in the future if enough people decide to work hard for it.

My understanding is that some of those Electoral Voters in the College can change their vote from Trump to Hillary and are not bound by their state. The idea is to get a number of them to change their vote - so that Hillary gets the 270 threshold and takes away the EV's from Trump.

Did I misunderstand this petition?

Here is a short article about the petition: http://www.whec.com/news/online-petition-wants-electoral-college-to-make-clinton-president-/4319428/

It would take 38 "faithless electors" to flip it. That is a pretty big hurdle.

The electoral college decides who is president, not the popular vote.

To change that would take a constitutional amendment, which takes 3/4 of the state legislatures to approve. Needless to say, not bloody likely with a substantial majority of state legislatures in the hands of the ever increasingly delusional GOP.

And any claims that the election was somehow stolen? Well, I would remind DUers of the myriad of DU posts debunking Drumpf claims that the election would be rigged (when he undoubtedly thought he might lose). Rigged election claims are always by the ones who have lost the election and are rarely based on actual evidence. My advice is to not go there.
