House Democrats to target 48 GOP seats in 2014
Washington (CNN) As it tries again in 2014 to win back control of the House of Representatives, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee says it's got its eyes on 48 Republican-held seats.
"We need 17 seats to pick up the House. So we begin with an early universe of 30 districts where the incumbent got less than 10% and an additional 18 districts that we think can perform better in an off year than an on year," DCCC Chairman Steve Israel told reporters Thursday.
Israel asserted Republicans will be most vulnerable in suburban areas and areas with a growing Latino population in the 2014 midterm elections.
Israel, the Democrat from New York, is returning for a second cycle as DCCC chairman. Democrats needed to win back 25 seats last month to gain control of the House. Although they fell far short of that goal, they did win back eight seats from the GOP. Republicans will have a 234-201 advantage next month when the new Congress is seated. Each party will have a vacant seat.

(6,342 posts)The simple fact is that the turnout in 2014 will NOT be what it was in 2012. The mid-terms just simply do not have the pull that a presidential election has. Historically, the President's party loses power in the states during a mid-term election. That's our typical political cycle.

(24,416 posts)Republicans get their voters to the polls every election somehow. We just have to figure out what works with our voters and get them to turn out too.
Past doesn't HAVE to be prologue IMHO.

(14,566 posts)We have a good democratic president who will be completely neutered by a republican house for the next two years. Who knows how 2016 will turn out. You HAVE to try to get the House and keep the senate to try to get something done his last two years.

(2 posts)People like us are riled up. We can beat the SOB's at their own game. I am a retiree and my income is very fixed but I contribute $10 here and $10 there when I can. Let;'s support Mudcat Saunders get that asshole Eric Cantor; let's get somebody to run against Boehner (aka bonehead) and let's target the remainder of the freaks. Bachmann almost got defeated. Let's also remember that as of Jan 1, 2013 we have a very new Senate. We not only gained 2 seats but we replaced deadbeats like Lieberman with real progressive Democrats. Let's keep working and thinking positively. I respect Nate Silver but he's not the endall.
