I am worried the NRA is waiting for the shock to wear off and the notoriously short

American attention span to kick in. They are remaining silent but they will pounce when a bill is introduced. We must clamor for gun control! Do not let them outflank us!!!

The gun lobby has proven their powerful resilience time and again. When the new Congress convenes in January, Christmas will have passed and people will have calmed down a bit. The Democrats introducing any type of gun control bill will be greeted with a shower of high-powered bullets (pun intended).

This is a losing issue that has burned the Democrats time and again. Pro-gunners will be out in full force, while the silent, do-nothing majority will be just that as usual. The result will be a unified Republican Party, and a very divided Democratic Party and we will be creamed come election time. Then all the progress we've made on so many things over the last half-century will be at risk.

This is not a battle that can be won. Even if it can, and we end up getting a couple of toothless new gun laws, the costs will far outweigh the benefits.

that ANY form of gun legislation gets past the House.

This thread is spot on.

Christmas, New Years, the FISCAL CLIFF all will put the intensity of this to rest by early 2013.

Minus the raw emotion, there is no chance the lunatics in the House will ever put up any kind of gun control legislation.

for some minor changes in law to appease those really ticked right now, etc.

There are already folks here feeling sorry for the poor pitiful plight of gun "enthusiasts," and wanting all gun threads relegated to the gungeon for the gun "enthusiasts" to squelch with what amounts to right wing BS as far as guns are concerned.

Facebook is awash in pro-gun memes that seem to be too coordinated to be just a great big coincidence. They probably have a stockpile of disinformation graphs they can spew out through third-party Twitter and Facebook accounts for moments like this.

Unfortunately, some bit-shit crazy son of a bitch will shoot up another public place in a few weeks to re-energize us.

But when Joe Scarborough cries and says we've gotta do something, it's a good sign (of course NRA probably put him up to it).

I just hope they don't enact half-assed legislation, although it might be better than nothing.

Last night I actually got my gun nut uncle to agree with me.

Today he is posting the same old crap and his crazy friends are piling on.

The difference has to be that we all remember and remind and start taking some real action.

You know these oily little weasels don't give a shit about much of anything except the cash they can con out of the true believers.

Just imagine the torrent of direct mail they will unleash if and when any common sense gun safety regulations are proposed. They will be laughing all the way to the bank.

This one is gonna stick like white on rice. When Joe Dead Intern Scab-orough does a 180 on the NRA--with his former voting record--he knows something that the NRA does also. This thing will ot blow over. You don't kill children.

Joe Scar is doing what he does, a grand stand moment so he can be a partisan ass and say I AM THE GUY WHO SPOKE OUT AGAINST THE NRA!

Christmas, the New Years, the Fiscal Cliff stuff will wash away the sheer emotion early in January.

There will be lingering talk from those who want to believe this time is different, but there is absolutely no chance, zero, none, nada, that THIS Republican House of Representatives will put forward any legislation that limits gun "rights" in any manner.

There is only one certainty in life - republicans will stridently and relentlessly act like raging morons.

You can book it.

American attention span to kick in.

Yup,me too........As soon as Paris Hilton has a hangnail,or a Kardashian gets a run in her stocking or Snooki cracks a fart, this will all fall by the wayside as the media chases the next big story...

Surely the NRA is all too aware of the vacuous stupidity and shallowness of (D)uhmerkens, since they've worked, with others, for decades to foster that condition......
