So, remember my Trump voting cousin?

Well, now that he started watching the news, he is super scared and has no idea what to expect from Trump going forward. It's like he only started listening to what Trump was actually saying he would do to the economy AFTER he voted for Trump.

So, he has decided to go to college so that he will be occupied until Trump is no longer president. He thinks that if he is in school, Trump can't do anything to hurt him because of all of the programs he says Obama put into place. He also realizes that those jobs are not coming back. He no longer believes Trump is for jobs. He says that maybe Trump is scamming all of us, lol. I'm really really tired. I no longer have the energy to say, " I told you so." Too tired to rub it in. Too tired to tell him his plan is unusual and might be wasting space that someone with actual goals might need to educate themselves. He does want to take a US government class, "To learn how government works". So maybe the space won't really be wasted. He wants to learn. Baby steps. It's progress. I have heard no racist blaming of Mexicans since he realized Trump was the one taking his medicare. That's nice.

Dec 2016

I caught a few minutes near the end of the broadcast from Kenosha and a couple white guys on the panel of Trump voters sitting with Sanders said they were sure Trump couldn't do any of the things he said because they wouldn't pass Congress. Sanders sort of disabused that notion by saying he was IN Congress and they shouldn't be so sure. One guy even acknowledged that manufacturing jobs like the old days weren't coming back.

My take was these voters were frustrated, Trump told them what they wanted to hear, they thought a lot of it was BS but they figured they'd send a message since nothing bad would happen because someone or something would tie up all the crazy stuff in congress. They never gave a thought that bad stuff might actually happen to them and now they're going to be begging Dem senators to save them from themselves.

He literally said, "I thought at least he would get rid of the mexicans!" I said, "you are stupid as fuck and racist with your black ass, Trump don't give a fuck about you, you're black, yiu live on Hell Street." My cousin, he is dumb. I asked him if he felt better not having medicare if mexicans got sent away, he said no, he could die. I broke down and called him forty seven different types of dumbfucks and told him how to register for classes.

that they may actually be worse off under him totally deserves any sympathy. What they deserve is to be told exactly how stupid they were.

You are nicer than I would have been in regards to telling him how to register for classes.

He's an adult. He's made certain decisions. Don't bail him out.

I know how hard it can be with relatives, I've been in a similar place. But since this person has enough income to pay for an SUV, he has enough income to support himself. Hang in there.

Wed Dec 14, 2016, 11:38 PM
Dec 2016

I made a short comment about my family is not a family that will fare well under a Trump presidency. I have 2 siblings that worked manufacturing for decades and because of bad backs and knees are on disability. One other sibling is an adult but has Asperberger's syndrome. He's high functioning enough that with assistance of county/state regional services and the income from SS as well as SS survivor benefits from my late father, he lives in the home I grew up in on his own. But dependent totally on the govt for income to buy groceries and pay utilities.

All of these family members are at a much greater risk with Trump and his anti-governement, government.

She stopped me and tried to console me by saying, "wait, wait -- Trump will make America great again!" And it was true and sincere. She really meant it as a comfort to my worry. Good God.

And don't let her get away with platitudes and generalities. Push her, really push her about what she thinks Trump will do.

One problem for all of us is that politicians almost always speak in generalities. We don't require that they give us specifics, and we should.

I've had my go around with her over the decades. During the Obama years, I had to put a politics talk gag order on her. I told her if she and I are to have a harmonious relationship, we can't talk politics. That made her mad the first year I imposed it and she refused to come out for a visit - either out of anger or because she knew she couldn't control herself. But since then we have stuck to that general rule and things have been fine. I accidentally blurted out the thing about my siblings during a our phone call about Christmas and our plans.

We will go back to that gag order. She speaks in generalities, she let's Fox news form her opinions for her, and she parrots what she hears. It gets me no where but frustrated to discuss politics with her so we don't - can't.
