‘No desire’ for the latest Romney excuse

‘No desire’ for the latest Romney excuse
Posted by Jonathan Capehart on December 24, 2012

-snip-

On the one hand, I am inclined to believe Tagg. His father ran one of the worst presidential campaigns in modern memory. Perhaps it’s a former Massachusetts governor thing. Mike Dukakis didn’t do so hot as the Democratic presidential nominee in 1988. Also, Romney never offered a credible rationale for why he wanted to sit in the Oval Office other than he wanted to sit in the Oval Office.

On the other hand, I say horse hockey to Tagg’s assertion. His father spent the better part of six years running for the White House. And he did so in a manner that led to frequent charges of ideological promiscuity and a deep-seated mistrust among conservatives. Have we already forgotten how “anybody but Mitt” was the GOP mantra until there was nobody but Mitt left to take the nomination? Also, for a man who didn’t want to be president, he sure had no problem burying his competition under an avalanche of negative ads or tacking to the right of them on whatever issue when it was necessary to get the job done.

The one thing I believe fully is that Ann was totally behind the effort to get her husband to run again. The Post’s Philip Rucker reported that friends of the Romneys said that the would-be first lady was taking her husband’s loss especially hard because she “believed up until the end that ascending to the White House was their destiny.” Romney had to learn a life lesson the hard way: The White House is earned.

Another lesson learned the hard way is that the American people don’t like to feel like the person running for president is doing them a favor. That we should be so “lucky” to have someone like them in the White House, as Ann said of her husband during a September radio interview in Iowa. But it worked out in the end. The man who had “no desire to run” learned that the American people had no desire to have him in the White House.

... frequent charges of ideological promiscuity ...!!!!!

He wanted the Presidency so bad he could TASTE it. This latest "excuse" is horseshit, designed as a face-saver. Instead, like EVERYTHING the rMoneys do, it falls flat and sounds false. No one spends twenty million of their own money on something they don't want--and that was the LAST run, not this one!!!

Tue Dec 25, 2012, 09:46 AM
Dec 2012

In his final 2 years as Governor of Massachusetts, he spent more time campaigning and raising money for GOPigs around the country than he did governing the state. All this was laying the groundwork and earning "political capital" for his eventual runs for the Presidency. As I posted on Facebook the day after the election, we dodged a huge bullet that day.

The part about him governing Massachusetts.

Romney holds the land speed record for overturned vetos - approximately 700 of them. The last year he was in office, he issued somewhere around 200 vetos and all of them were overturned - many unanimously. In effect, Mass had no governor; the General Court wrote anything it wanted, sent it to Romney, waited a couple days for it to come back, and enacted it over his veto.

A Romney presidency was designed to be a power-behind-the-throne deal, and would have required flipping the Senate - which the Republicans expected to do. Lobbyists would have written the bills...ATR on budgetary matters, NRA on gun laws, Heritage on defense...a compliant Congress would have passed them and Romney would have signed them. Mussolini described Fascism as corporate control of the government. It is unkind to call people fascists, but that's what we would have been up against.

Why is this a hard lesson? Any school boy/girl in any school in America learns this from an early age. Even then success is far from certain and failure becomes and accepted mode of learning.

Unless of course you grow up as a member of privileged class where everything is either handed to you, inherited or bought.

- If there were any chances of a political Romney future, Tagg just took a shit on it.
- The statement "never met anyone less interested in becoming Pres" makes no sense.
- Tagg now has no political future. Who'd trust him?
- Tagg has a large stake in voting machines. Conflict of interest of the highest order.

If what Tagg is saying was true, if he could be reluctantly talked into an undertaking as big as a presidential run, then he had no business being president. Just look to Dubya for what can happen when the Oval Office is occupied by someone who leaves the "advisors" running the show.

And note the language: Ann wanted to "ascend" to the WH, Tagg said Romney didn't want to "...run". He wanted a coronation, and it doesn't work like that.

The one percent does not like to believe that the rest of us would dare to oppose them, on either side. Note the utter surprise that many in the GOP had when Obama beat Hillary out; they spoke glowingly of the same woman that, the year before, they would have sent to the electric chair (for the "murder of Vince Foster and other "crimes".)

The security of the one percent lies in the ability to hire minions to fool the masses, the election of 2012 gave a hint that the old reliable tricks might not work anymore.
