Sparks says running what he called "recall protest candidates" guarantees a clear primary date and ensures no Republicans will face a general election that day, when Democrats likely will turn out in huge numbers to select a gubernatorial challenger.

If there is only 1 Democrat running in the recall of one of the legislators, then the recall election happens on primary day. If there's more than 1 Democrat, the recall happens after primary day.

They don't want the Republican legislators facing recall to have to win on a day when a ton of Democrats turn out to vote.
