Organizations sending out emails need to identify themselves!

Recently with the lead up to the real campaign, I've been getting more and more emails from the various political organizations and campaign groups. An increasing number of those emails come from some individual with a subject header that does not give a clue about what group the email is from. MY policy is that if I don't recognize the person and if the subject header does not include an organization or something that tells me WHO sent the email, I delete it. There is no telling if some anonymous email will have some virus or malware in it, so this has been my habit for decades.

Today, I got an email from some woman at Emily's List with a subject heard "Photos". I was curious so I right clicked the email in the list, selected Properties, Details, Message Source so I could see what the email was about without actually opening it. It was an innocuous email asking me to donate to a campaign in some district not in my state. I have no idea how many emails from Emily's List have gone in the trash over the years because it was an unknown sender with an ambiguous subject line. Now Emily's List has been added to the many groups I've unsubscribed to in the last month.

It's simple enough for the people associated with these groups to add some basic information to their email subject headers - every message I get from a commercial organization has the name of the business as the sender and in the subject header. Even the little local native plants nursery I get a weekly email from includes their business name in every email subject header, and believe me, those people are NOT tech savvy!

Please if you are associated with any liberal group or any Democratic campaign, tell them to be sure to include the essential information in their messages!

I agree with you, though, that the headers should be a bit more informative. I don't open anything from an address I don't recognize--although, in this case, I do.

2. I agree that Emily's List is a good organization

Sending messages with uninformative headers is not the only reason I am paring down the organizations I will be receiving emails from, but as far as I am concerned it is one good criteria for cutting them out of my list.

My major reason for reducing the number of emails I get is that I will be getting two surgeries in the next year. My email volume had gotten unmanageable without that, so I have simply been unsubscribing from every organization whose emails I wasn't reading. Then I started examining the other emails and found a large number of "anonymous" ones were actually from organizations I liked, but had been dumping their emails into my Junk filter because they didn't identify themselves.

Every group I have unsubscribed to has been told why I am unsubscribing if they have a way to do so.

I don't know if any of those groups have been added to blacklists because of people like me. That's why rather than just keeping on doing as I have, I thought that people here are probably volunteers with many different groups and could help get the word out.

3. I agree--I trash that shit too, even when I know where it's coming from.

If I want material from the DNC, I'd like the DNC to identify themselves. I don't care for an email from Klem Kaddiddlehopper, particularly when he's not on my 'CONTACTS' list--it makes me think my system has failed me.

And nowadays, with the spoofing and hacking and all that happy shit, you can't be too careful.

4. Yes - I just got an email from my little sister that sent up flags

First it was a Fw: - she doesn't do that because of spoofing. Second it was from an older email account that I didn't think she was still using.

I sent out a warning to the rest of the family and got the response that little sister couldn't have sent it. She and her husband are on a cruise to England! I think I saved some of the less careful family members some grief there.

I've got DWTS on, and "KISS" is singing (badly). I was too old to get into them the first time around, and even at that, I see a WATTLE on at least one neck! Those bums can afford plastic surgery! No wonder they still wear the stupid makeup--it spackles the wrinkles!

Getting old--it beats the only available alternative!!
