Tennessee. Virginia. Arizona.
That's to name just three states that are f***ing with women, their reproductive rights, and Roe v. Wade.
I'm watching Real Time with Bill Maher tonight, and just turned the channel, because I'm tired of him having yet another panel always giving us one Republican stain who doesn't need to be part of the conversation. That conversation on the April 13 broadcast -- just after Arizona won "The Stupidest State" trophy -- received predictable responses.
I don't need a Democrat/liberal saying the Republican Party has been hijacked. I don't need that. What I need to know is WTF will the Democratic Party do to about the hijacking from Republicans when it comes to these laws and such? Really? For all the talk about electability, and how the Republicans are supposedly dooming themselves, I notice the GOP is making headway with this and getting away with it. So spare the pseudo intellectual b.s., because I'd like to know how the Democrats will counter. (Or even if they will.)

(24,426 posts)I'm glad that Maddow is keeping an eye on what is going on up there. It's not enough to just let the Republicans completely self-immolate themselves. We need to be fighting back against some of the stuff that right-wing is cramming down OUR throats and telling people what WE plan to do to if elected back into power as well.

(10,287 posts)as many seats in both houses need to be made secure as possible
then resources need to be allocated to congressional candidates based on need(a small seat in tennessee needs money more than a secure seat in illinois) and embracing more take it to them style politics
ala grayson
he runs in a district that shifts with the tides but he still brings the issues to the table
we do not need more be quiet go along to get along style candidates

(2,514 posts)however look whats happened in the last couple of months.. fokkks viewership is down.. the chunky junky has lost a ton of advertisers.. and ALEC is loosing sponsors..
whats happening in the social media, and with the occupy movement may very well make more difference than the Democratic party.. but in the end I'm sure all will vote for Obama..
its like Wisconsin the people make a difference.. and that ultimately benefits the Democratic party, simply because they have nowhere else to go

(6,670 posts)What they're saying is that our two-party system welds the Dems and the Repubs together, with "centrism" between them. This cluster can drift all over the spectrum, and there's nothing in the two-party system itself that can control this. That has to be controlled from outside the world of party politics. Given that the government isn't going to help us, how do we stop corporations?

(28,151 posts)While it is fun and exciting to watch the national and world stage politics, to comment, armchair quarterback and all that but.......that ain't where it's at really.
While the glamour and excitement of the big stage are alluring, it's the state and county level that decides so much of what affects us. This is where we need to put a lot of our energies.
If you want it to change get out there and help make it happen. I can tell you that the WH and the DNC can't make it happen but we can.
