Even though a big majority of recently polled Michigan voters dont know who Democrats Mark Schauer and Bart Stupak are, the two politicians are in a dead heat with Gov. Rick Snyder in head-to-head matchups for the 2014 gubernatorial election.
Schauer of Battle Creek and Stupak of Menominee are both former state lawmakers and congressmen, and have been mentioned as potential candidates for governor, although neither has made an official announcement about running.
The poll of 600 people done April 13-16 by EPIC/MRA of Lansing showed that 56% of the people surveyed didnt know who Stupak was and 75% didnt know who Schauer was. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
And yet, Schauer holds a slim 39-38% lead over Snyder, while Stupak is a point behind Snyder at 38-39%.
If theyre running even with Snyder and no one knows who they are, thats an indication that Snyder is losing support, said Bernie Porn, EPIC/MRAs pollster.

Perhaps many do not know who Schauer and Stupak are but all now know who 'Snyder' is!

(2,237 posts)Sydner is just asking to lose with his blatant not listening to the people with signing a word for word almost exactly the same version of the emergency manager law a few weeks after voters repealed it at the ballot box. It shows just how corrupted our corporate media is that this act didn't get big national play, or the original signing of it.

The emergency manager stuff should have him in more trouble..but pocketbooks come first...

Though I like Schauer a lot, Stupak was a good representative for the 1st district. He is also a "pro-lifer" which would neutralize a bit of the GOP appeal. He also doesn't sound polished--though he is a skilled politician.
Contrary to a point in the article..Stupak is well known throughout the northern part of the mitten and the entire UP..as the first district is HUGE. And this would be an asset..
Honestly Schauer is more to my liking on policy.. but Stupak would have the best chance to win. I know some would say we need to counter the pro-lifer extremists in Lansing..and I actually agree. But I'm just looking at candidate strength here..

(33,497 posts)actually be better for us than the Senate or House.
Gerrymandering will probally cause the GOP to control the house till 2022 at least. The problem with the senate Is all these red state
Dems cutting and running. If we can still have 49 democrats senators as well as Sanders and King that will be quite a feat.
Fl,Mi,and PA governorships are all In play.Oh may be toughier since Kasick's approval has gone up recently but dems shouldn't throw In the towel.Unfortly Walker In WI will probally only leave office If he Is indicted. He would probally be reelected barring that.
Inless voters In Maine are willing to treat Collins like republicans such as Romney I don't see a Republican seat that could be In play
for democrats.Mcconnel will probally win now In KY.None of the 2010 victorys are up for relection till 2016.
