Obama Maintains Substantial Approval Advantage

Obama Maintains Approval Advantage

A new Pew Research survey finds President Obama "continues to hold a substantial advantage over congressional Republicans in public regard. Obama's job approval is back in positive territory at 51%... By comparison, just 22% approve of the job Republican leaders in Congress are doing, among the lowest approval rating for congressional leaders from either party in 20 years."

"Furthermore, a record-high 80% say Obama and Republican leaders are not working together to address important issues facing the country, and by nearly two-to-one (42%-22%) more blame Republican leaders than Obama for the gridlock."

The President's approval rate should be a lot higher than 51%. After all, he came into office during the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression and pulled us away from the brink of total economic collapse. Plus he's accomplished Healthcare reform, consumer financial protection , and other great things, while at the same time blocking the Repugs' continual attempts to harm the country and the American people. President Obama should have a 100% approval rating. Anyone who doesn't agree has their head in the sand.

I will cede that president Obama has inherited an awful situation coupled with an unprecedented degree of obstructionism on the part of the other part. I will also cede that he has done a lot of good. That being said, it doesn't excuse the fact that his presidency has had it's share of major blemishes (the continuation of Bush's foreign policy programs being the biggest one in my opinion)...

I get the impression that history will treat Obama pretty kindly, but to say that he deserves a 100% approval rating seems like a bit much to say.

"Furthermore, a record-high 80% say Obama and Republican leaders are not working together to address important issues facing the country"

It has been exclusively the GOP who has refused to cooperate. Anybody who has been paying any attention should know that Obama has worked vigorously to strike a deal with the GOP, perhaps more than some on the Left have been comfortable with.
If proposing CPI isn't working with the other side, then I don't know what is. It's as if these imbeciles in the media are expecting him to just roll over and give the Right everything they want while we get nothing. No tax revenue, no universal pre-school, no clean energy, no nothing. Just more cuts.
