This is my first Discussion Thread

I finally figured out the difference between Democrats and Republicans....we do not speak the same language. Not even close.

I just heard a Republican Senator say on "The Ed Show" that the report about the IRS "scandal" is chilling. It is disturbing it raises questions about who we give tax exempt status to...but it ain't chilling. Sandy Hook Elementary is chilling, the news out of Cleveland is chilling, the reports of shootings at a Mother's Day parade in NOLA is chilling. Someone taking a closer look at tax exempt request because the name of the organization may be questionable.....but it sure the HELL ain't chilling.

You do realize that talking heads on political sleeze shows represent little more than themselves. The ed show. That ed in particular is a shill. He started out as a conservative radio host personality and followed the money to the other side. Guns are a wedge issue, even between democrats. I personally find government corruption and abuse far more chilling than shootings. We don't all agree.

crazier and crazier. His speaking out forcefully for unions is commendable too. I'm sure he is sincere in all he says and does, and is in no way a "shill" or troll as I suspect of you.

When ed was in his early 40s he didn't support unions. He left conservative talk radio for money, not because his ideology had changed. I can excuse a teenager for being naive and ignorant when it comes to history, critical thinking, and politics. Im not going to excuse a man in his 40s who should know better. I used to listen to him on the radio...and even when he made the switch he still had a conservative bent that rarely made any rational sense. 99% of his shtick was entertainment maybe 1% at most truth. Many democrats like him now because he parrots exactly what his audience wants to hear...there is hardly any substance to it. But oh well right, because you agree with him then he must be sincere.

And I could imagine why his "concervative bent" rarely made sense. Conservative idealogy rarely does. I am glad he met his wonderful wife and saw the light. And whether Ed is sincere or not (I think he is), I am glad there is a progressive voice on MSNBC Saturday afternoons. I won't miss the prison shows.

Glad you're here! And you're quite correct. We are on different planets, them and us. The world views are just that far apart.

Make sure you call your rep, Dem or republi-CON ('cause all they offer is a CON JOB!) and make sure he/she knows how you feel. They're quite ardent about pursuing this because they think they might finally smell blood. And the media seems hellbent on helping out as much as possible. The pressure's on. So we HAVE TO press back!

Note the handy TOLL FREE Capitol Hill switchboard numbers in my sig line below! I'd call even if you're stuck with a republi-CON. They REALLY need to be sat on and held down about this, or if they're determined, then they need to be given Hellfire and Brimstone for it.

Very well said. Thank you.

Talking Points Memo addresses the IRS nonscandal here:

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2013/05/key_points.php?ref=fpblg
[There’s one point here that’s important not to forget: there’s a huge amount of political groups masquerading as educational and social welfare groups. They all deserve more scrutiny, right and left. Everybody who follows this stuff knows that. It’s not clear to me that the January 2012 standard was even a problem and it was watered down even more by the middle of the year. blockquote]

We also live in different realities, which guides the language, of course.

They live in a land of constant hysteria and paranoia. As Frank Bruni observed in the NYT this morning, even Republicans with good credentials live in this alternate universe.

A fine effort for your first thread post, for which I am happy to support.

The GOP is really all about ideology where no amount of evidence can falsify. Trickle down economics works... It's a fact!!! Reagan promoted anti-ballistic missiles so they work, too (no matter what physicists and engineers say). The USA is a Christian nation. All the founders attended fundamentalist church services and intended Christianity, especially Protestantism, to be the national religion. Unions are a communist conspiracy!!! And don't get me started about fluoridation.

Keep on posting, my friend.

I missed Ed and his charts! Was sorry to hear about his wife. Great 1st post, however I don't think I can classify what they speak as even a language at this point, more like Jiberish. The only thing I find Chilling is that they actually think we are that stupid, and while many are, there are just as many that are not(pats myself on the back). Everything is a scandal to the republicans if it's not their way
