The next 30 years...

Last edited Sun Aug 4, 2013, 03:28 AM - Edit history (1)

Around three years ago the Republicans sorta rolled out their new generation of conservative leaders, “the young guns”: Paul Ryan, Eric Cantor and Kevin McCarthy

So, tonight I got to thinking about our Democratic female politicians and activists that have 'strong voices' those that are young enough now (under 50) to be around in the future for at least the next thirty years.

Below is a short list of names that I came up with from the top of my head:

Wendy Davis (1963)*
Alison Lundergan Grimes (1978)*
Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (1966)
Kristen Gillibrand (1966)
Tammy Duckworth (1968)
Gabby Giffords (1970)
Kamala Harris (1964)
Sandra Fluke (1981)
Angelina Jolie (1975)
Ashley Judd (1968)

A few Democratic young men for good measure...

Cory Booker (1969)
Julian Castro and Joaquín Castro (1974)
Jared Polis (1975)
Joseph P. Kennedy III (1980)
Gavin Newsom (1967)*

If you can think of more names, please add 'em down below in the comments.

I love lists

From what I've seen of him, I like. He's got Veep and then President written all over him.

He's from Maryland for those that don't know.

I've heard nothing but good things about him (though I really only know what I've heard on DU).

Both do excellent work not only fundraising, but also for charity.

Fluke would be a very interesting prospect (and it would kill Rush Limbaugh in the process, a two for one).

Most of those on the list are still fairly young. I think given the increase in the Hispanic population the Castro brothers would be a good bet for the Democrats to flip the a seat for Texas in the Senate (wouldn't having both be a BFD).

As far as the Castro brothers - my 'guess' is that Mayor Julián Castro will run for Governor in the future,
and his brother Joaquín (the one in the U.S. House) will eventually run for the U.S. Senate.

He lost in 2012, Rs put so much $ against him, he got crushed. Nick Lampson, always strong for SS, he started the amber alert system and has experience in Congress. His family and Mom were my neighbors for several years. He had to suffer, redistricting, gerrymandering of maps, ALL the R Tx on his back as he tried to get Ron Pauls seat in 2012.
