2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumPoll: 30% (MORE) Of Americans Like Michelle Obama More Than Ann Romney
If you expected Rosengate to give Ann Romney a leg up on first lady Michelle Obama, you thought wrong.
A new CNN/ORC poll found that seventy-one percent (71%) of potential voters report viewing Ms. Obama favorably, a stark contrast to the 41 percent of survey participants who reported thinking highly of Ann. This is a noticeable jump in popularity for the current first lady, who had a 65 percent favorable rating in September. Perhaps sharing her awkward prom photo with Ellen Degeneres on national television worked wonders. After all, Americans like a lady who can laugh at herself and admit that her former fashion choices were far from stylish.
To add insult to injury, 20 percent of those who took the poll said theyd never even heard of Ann. Keeping in mind that the poll was conducted just days after the viral Ann/Hilary Rosen duel, the lack of knowledge on the Michigan native is either pathetic or funny. We say its a combination of the two.
When it comes to those who see the women in an unfavorable light, however, only 20 percent of people had this to say of Ann whereas 22 percent of survey subjects reported having such negtive feelings about Ms. Obama. This is unlikely to make much of a difference in the long run though, as Romneys likability among women didnt see a huge spike in the Rosengate war aftermath. Ann may have just celebrated her birthday and received a very cool cake from pushy oaf Donald Trump, but it still kind of sucks to be her this month.

(7,593 posts)1) Saying 30% of Americans support something implies that 70% don't. It is not the same as saying someone has 30 more percentage points over the other person.
2) 71% + 41% = 112%.

Michelle Obama HAS 30% 'more than' Ann Romney.
The OP is about their favorability and unfavorabilty ratings.
It wasn't an either or question.

(11,514 posts)Ann - eh. There is something about her that I find as unlikeable as her husband. Maybe more of that same privileged smugness?
