REPUBLICANS AGAINST FREE ENTERPRISE?

The Republican legislature in North Carolina is considering a bill that would ban the electric car company Tesla from selling cars in the state because the company sells directly to consumers rather than through third-party dealers.

Why are they really against it?

Is it because the Tesla is environmentally friendly, and environmentalism is a liberal thing?

Is it because electric cars would hurt the profits of the big oil companies?

Is it because local car dealers who might be hurt provide a lot of the advertising revenue on conservative talk-radio stations?

Is it “all of the above?”

namely, that Don Flow, Rick Hendrick and the Leith family (three of the biggest auto dealers in America) pump a LOT of money into putting Republicans in the North Carolina General Assembly, and those guys hate competition.

Maybe if Tesla came out with a huge, electricity-wasting version equipped with assault weapons conservatives might change their minds.

They could call it the “Dummer!”

The Republicans are in George Carlin's "club" (see:

). Anything that isn't the club, that they, or their masters, don't own must be destroyed by any means possible.

They aren't for one second interested in fair markets, or even strong markets. They aren't for competition, they're against it!

Because most sane people know if a Republican is against it, it must be good

I'm puzzled. Republicans come up with pretty good ideas about how the economy
should be run: free enterprise, minimal government control of commerce, stuff
like that. So why is that you guys are hell bent on legislating my conduct in
my bedroom or in my home, for that matter? Why are you so interested in what
I do in the privacy of my home? Why do you want to control my body? Why do
you want my kids to pray every school day? [This is a rhetorical question,
since I don't actually have any children.] You guys yak and yak about freedom
but what you're really promoting is the freedom to think and behave like you
think and behave. Well, sorry pal, I aint you. If you don't care for
diversity, move to Iran; everybody thinks the same over there. You'll fit
right in. Cheers,

They are only for "free enterprise/markets" when it furthers their other goals or helps their
corporate puppetmasters. I have never heard of any of their deregulation efforts making
life easier for startups who actually need it. Same with their supposed hatred of
"big government". They are only against "big government" when it helps someone with a less
then 7 digit bank balance.
