Major Democratic Donors Flock To Christie

TRENTON — Gov. Chris Christie is cashing in donations from top Democratic fundraisers and other traditionally liberal donors across the country, even nabbing the support of a handful of rainmakers aligned with President Obama and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, a Star-Ledger review of state and federal records shows.

The checks are flying into the Republican governor’s war chest from all sorts of unlikely places — the hedge fund run by liberal billionaire George Soros, for example, and the politically progressive halls of the University of California, Berkeley.

The nascent support from Democratic donors is an early sign of Christie’s fundraising prowess in a potential run for the White House in 2016, experts and Democratic donors said, and dovetails with recent polls showing him gaining popularity nationally among Democrats and independents.

Christie’s partnership with New Jersey Democratic leaders and his warm relationship with Obama after Hurricane Sandy could be enticing donors who don’t often give to GOP candidates, even if they are closer ideologically to Democrat Barbara Buono, Christie’s lesser-known challenger, political scientists and Democratic fundraisers say.

"While I do not agree with his stance on every issue, he is one of the best political leaders I have talked to in a long time," said Ken Rosen, a UC-Berkeley professor who cut a $3,800 check to Christie after chatting with him at two events. "He is willing to take on tough issues such as pension reform, education reform, mental-health issues, even if his views are not politically correct."

Pension Reform.....means cuts, Education reform.... means cuts...Tough issues....just means we give the poor too much... Why is this guy even mentioned is DU? Because he is a Berkley Professor which means he must possess some intelligent design?

Take a position, and stand behind it no matter what.

Dont "triangulate", be decisive.

Thats what makes an idiot like Christie popular.

to the woman who asked why his kids went to private school. Ok, maybe it wasn't her business, but he could have answered more politely. The fact that he handled that question so poorly makes me question how he'd handle even more probing, stressful questions on a national stage. He handled the Sandy situation well by being gracious to the president, but many other times I've seen him he has just come across as a bully.

is the best thing we could do if we want to take out a gop candidate. The gotp was beside themselves with anger. They all said of course Soros gives money to Christie, he's a democrat. All kinds of good stuff. If the state were more red, Buono could run an ad remarking on where Christie was getting his money and win.

Now Zuckerberg, I don't like the guy and I think his ego and money could do alot of damage to politics. I'll bet he's behind Paul Ryan going out to silicon valley to solicit money and try to convert some of the tech types. Good luck Ryan, they have calculators there. They will be able to do the math on your budget.

All it took was a hurricane to make them forget about how toxic he is for middle and lower-income people in NJ. Now all of a sudden, he's up by 40 points and is winning over supposed-Dem donors. At least there's not much of a chance of him winning nationally, although I really hope I won't be eating my words since we do still have some Americans who can be easily swayed.

The Corporate/1% party is making its early bet. It effectively controls America already, and seeks to make sure it stays that way.
