For republicans. Last year I was freaking out about whether President Obama would get re-elected my sister told me that Romney was a mean person and would not get elected. Also she told me Meg Whitman would not get elected Governor of California.
My older sister listens to NPR only and watches MSNBC occasionally but reads a lot of mainstream magazines. I am the political junkie and am constantly fretting about the republicans. The one thing she said is people don't like mean politicians and this whole tea party thing will blow up in the GOP faces as services get cut and people look around their communities with people suffering. She said if you watch the regular news the only people talking bad stuff is republicans, President Obama is more optimistic.
I hope she is right.

(111,246 posts)She sounds like the type of astute distant observer my mother was. Such people are well worth listening to.
Unfortunately, everybody seems to think their own Rep is OK, it's your SOB who needs to go. That plus gerrymandering has kept the minority party in charge in the House for two election cycles. It's a really hard thing to overcome unless they do something incredibly stupid like Todd Akin did.
People are fed up with Republicans in general but that doesn't always translate to voting against their own incumbent.

(11,304 posts)to redistricting. We all must work hard to get the vote out. Especially young, minorities must get the vote out or we lose like in 2010 and you see what we got. It is imperative.

(186 posts)predicts a 2014 groundswell for the Democratic party?
Cool story sis...
I predict the Marlins making the World Series this year.
In all seriousness though... there is no precedent for a Dem victory in 14. Aging white folks come out to vote in off year elections and Dem voters do NOT. The Pubs are going to have 6 months worth of free TV advertising attacking the administration for the scandals de jour. More like a deeper hole in the House and holding onto the Senate by literally a vote or two.
Maybe Nate Silver can meet your sis?

(3,163 posts)Your sister who knows nothing about politics predicts Democratic victory, so you believe her; not because she has any authority, but because a democratic victory is what you want to happen.

(21,130 posts)She is married to a staunch republican who is disgusted by today's party. That might have some influence in her opinion. But I never said it was a fact but her opinion. She's been right many times about geo political things so I take into consideration her opinion. Just because you don't like what she thinks because it is not your reich wing opinion doesn't mean you have to attack me troll.

(3,163 posts)Where did I say that I do or do not want the Republicans to win in 2014? Where did I say your sister was wrong? How did you form your conclusion that it would be valid to call me a right wing troll?
For what it's worth, I am in my 70's, served in the Navy during the Cold War, was around during the Vietnam war myself, and have voted for Democrats probably more than 1000 times. Voted for Obama twice, so hearing myself called a "troll" based on my "right wing opinion" is simply hilarious.
Again, your knee jerks as you react instead of hearing what is actually said.

(14,881 posts)She said she "hopes" she is right. She made it clear her OP was the opinion of her non-political sister who relies on NPR and some MSM and has had some limited success at prognosticating.
You started the attack with your mean-spirited reply. You do know the difference between the words "believe" and "hope," don't you? Because between the tone of your posts, your apparent (lack of) reading comprehension and your low count, I figured you for a freeper myself.
Maybe you need to re-read the OP and then re-read how your post comes across. Because any knee-jerking was in your reply. In my opinion, of course.

(12,296 posts)... I agree it will be a bloodbath, but perhaps for incumbents as a whole & (if citizens have any damn sense left) anyone still in office who was a professional congresscritter when the Patriot Act was signed into law.

(33,310 posts)in case you didn't notice, the GOP controls congress, and citizens did that.
80% of incumbents will return to office. take it to the bank.

(1,437 posts)There's far two much hand-wringing going on around here. Political junkies like us are trapped in a bubble. We live and breathe this stuff, so of course, every little bump in the road seems like a sink hole.
To everyone else, they look at what's going on in Washington and see the crazies and the assholes against those, like Obama, who seem reasonable and concerned about the country. It's much, much clearer out there than it is inside this bubble.
