House Republicans considering citizenship for DREAMers

House Republicans considering citizenship for DREAMers

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Republicans in the House of Representatives started to coalesce on Tuesday around the idea of legalizing the children who were brought to the country by their parents, marking their first step toward dealing with the millions of undocumented foreigners living in the United States.

Under pressure from members of their own party, religious groups and Hispanics, House Republicans are bucking their traditional position of opposing citizenship for illegal immigrants, saying those children should be given a reprieve.

“They surely don’t share the culpability of their parents,” House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte said at a hearing to examine the issue.

But Goodlatte, whose committee is in charge of writing immigration laws, made it clear he did not think the parents should get a pass.

Or is this just a ploy?

One thing is for sure: the Teabaggers are not going to like it. Slippery slope and all that...

I hope it divides the Republicans.

our dreamers, might be a small step but still a step. You know, Tx4Obama, here in Texas we currently have a bleak situation with our members of Congress, too much TP for me and my representative also tries to play this dumb tp game, I vote and will not give up but dear old Delay has ripped and torn up our state in order to get the GOP elected. I am working and will continue to get this state back to the greatness of BLUE.

"I mean, sure we'd LIKE to let the poor kids stay, but then ... who's going to take care of them when their parents are deported? For the good of the family, as much as it pains us to have to do it, I'm afraid we have no choice but to deport the kids too. But we WANTED the kids to be able to stay, really and truly, so make sure you still vote for us and don't hate us!"

Apparently, the GOP believes there to be no limit to the gullibility of the population ...
