2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe Ad scheduled to run on tomorrow’s NFL game just might be a bad idea...
I love hard smack downs of right wingers..
But I think we should stick to the facts and by all means illustrate them in a creative manner..
But Listening to this kid cry for 15 seconds was annoying..and kind of makes one think that it could have come out of the office of Reince Priebus attacking a democrat..
Its scheduled to air on tomorrows NFL Games.

Think of why scientists don't debate creationists. it's not because they don't have the facts, it's not becuase they're afraid, it's because creationism simply isn't worth the dignification of taking it to an intellectual discussion.
So too here.

(8,515 posts)John Stewart does it the best..And thats not intellectual discussion..Facts are there but its shit kicking..
And they can do it just as well without the profanity..

(8,515 posts)This all about reality on both ends..
Scootaloo
(25,699 posts)No. Reality only exists on one end. Treating the delusions of the other side was equal to reality just empowers it and causes more harm
busterbrown
(8,515 posts)The reality on their side is that they are sick, hateful, racist people who will do anything to prevent the success of our
POTUS. The reality I am talking about is the reality that this is the situation we face now and the fact that this is not an effective way to deal with this issue.

(25,699 posts)Problem is, our nation's culture labors under this strange psychosis where pointing out that someone is a racist, self-centered, destructive asshole... makes them the victim, you the bad guy, and the people they abuse disappear from the discussion altogether.

(8,515 posts)A strategy... Not the lunacy of the teabagger Repubs..
This is about the smart way to accomplish what you desire.. This Ad is not.

(60,536 posts)on one level I believe it is incredibly awesome and about damned time we fought back like this...on the other hand, I kind of agree with every one that has voiced concern.

(8,515 posts)So bad that I think even if it wasnt run,, Repukes could use it against us..pointing out how we have sunk to a new level.... Of course this is the only freaking game they know..but I still think its a bad idea..

(38,613 posts)if someone wants to air an ad like this, they should at least use actual clips of him crying. There are certainly enough of them

(20,176 posts)I fully expect it to backfire to such an extent that Democrats are going to lose this showdown over it. I really want them to kill this ad...this is what happens when amateurs try to produce concept ads in-house on the cheap.
They clearly didn't focus group it. It's awful. Counterproductive.
(Next time, guys. Call me. I'll work cheap and fast and you'll get an ad that doesn't immediately infuriate people against you for showing it.)

(42,307 posts)30 years of PR experience. I love the ad. It's simple, brutal, effective, funny as hell and true.
It's being shown during football. That's not the time for policy discussion. The Democrats are playing hardball. The Rs will harrumph but only because they didn't come up with something better. It's a great ad.
busterbrown
(8,515 posts)This Ad will have the middle questioning our political mindset.. I thought we were suppose to be the Adults in the room.. Obamas has projected that image since he has been POTUS and it has worked.
We are suppose to be clever not stone throwers... Its what separates us from them..
This Ad sucks..

(725 posts)It isn't funny. The baby is small - too little to be a "spoiled brat". Although the crying is nerve wracking, he evokes sympathy - not ill will.
This is a loser.

(1,183 posts)VERY bad idea....they should cancel this ad.

(8,515 posts)Some here are such wonderful writers. I wonder if someone could come up with some sot of letter that many of us
here at DU could sign.. This is a well respected Site and could carry some influence..

(46,585 posts)We who are damn sick & tired of the teabagger horseshit and want to rub it in their stupid faces.
I've seen ads from the GOP and an ad by No Labels - an unholy alliance of Republicans and disaffected right-leaning Clintonites.
I think Democrats will survive being the authors of one snotty ad.
busterbrown
(8,515 posts)An Ad which does not accomplish one thing except making those who wrote it look like amateurs..

(51 posts)I actually live in that district (have since 2011) and agree... this is a very gerrymandered district. Somehow they separated places like Solon from the rest of Cuyahoga County so it can be with places like Mentor in Lake County. And from what I know, I've never seen/heard much from Dave Joyce. If he's a Tea Partier I'd love to get him TFO. Otherwise, this is a district where I've never seen Democrats even try. I think Steve LaTourette (retired) might have been the rep from this area; I don't think he would have voted with the Tea Party on this one.
To take this one, they need to launch an all out assault and remind everyone the damage done. This also looks like the same ad they used to go at Boehner (where it would be more effective. Especially if they transitioned from the baby into Boehner actually crying).

(12,383 posts)Based on the fact that going into it that's what most people are thinking anyway, I believe it will be fine.
BeyondGeography
(39,370 posts)not least because there are major democratic principles involved. The ad is too simplistic; it not only adds nothing to the debate, it detracts from the seriousness of the situation and the legitimacy of the Democratic position. The average football fan wants to believe both sides are assholes. The ad gives them the excuse to do just that.

(35,328 posts)ago just playing Republicans one after the other saying "Shut the government down." Hell those clowns have
been publicly saying that for years now. The low information voters need to be reminded of that, so they know who is to blame.
