2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSo this is how I see it.
A group formed calling themselves the Tea Party. They were not particularly well informed and many are out and out racists. They got a lot of publicity. They appeared to have a large following. Republicans did not encourage them to leave them and form another party. They featured them, welcomed them, thought that it was great to have these Tea Party candidates as Republicans. They believed it was good to increase their numbers. I grew up in the South and still live there. If today you wave a Confederate flag, there can only be two reasons..1) you really do not understand history and the meaning 2) you are a racist.
Turns out that when you only look at the number of seats you win and not who is in them, you get stabbed in the back. Some of them are ignorant of government. Some of them may have some psychiatric issues (I am being polite). Some of them have extreme religious beliefs. Some of them are just stupid. But they are Republicans and they are creating big trouble for the party.
I believe in a strong two party system, but the Republican party has become two parties......one eager for control which has let a bunch of incompetent people speak for them and they are now attacking from within.
I fear for our country.
I did not mention names......I believe you can fill them in.

Here's your re-write:
Once upon a time there were two assholes named David and Charles Koch. They decided they liked being billionaires and wanted to influence politics so they could hoard even more $$$. They created and funded a group calling themselves the tea party ...
There you go.

(16,038 posts)there are millions, and millions of Americans who are disenfranchised with our government. Some are right of center, some are left of center. Those right of center lashed out through alignment with the tea party, those on the left lashed out through the formation of the Occupy Movement. Both tea party and Occupy have things which divide them, and things they hold in common. The greatest fear of the GOP and the DNC is that these two radically disenfranchised groups leave their differences behind and explore their similar interests. Each party is working exhaustively in concert to demonize and dehumanize the other group of disenfranchised voters..as usual, there are many minions who will carry their respective water..
