a few years ago he was on the joy behar show. he had just written a book -- don't remember the name but it was about marriage and romance. he mentioned god. joy asked "what about people who don't believe in god"? he answered "they're idiots". how dare he call atheists idiots?
since then i will not watch anything he's on -- noticed he's on SNL tonight.

(135,425 posts)You have to agree with everything a person says to watch them?
Your TV viewing must be terribly limited...

(11,649 posts)calling me an idiot does. i would never call someone who practices religion an idiot. i watch MSNBC and chris matthews, lawrence o'donnell and probably many more are practicing catholics. so is michael moore and i have no problem with him.

(135,425 posts)He's religious. He thinks being religious is important, and maybe it is to him. And maybe he was playing to the audience when he said that.
Why let it affect you? Don't let him ruin your day or cause you to not watch a show you would ordinarily watch.
If someone says that something I like "sucks" well, BFD. I think to myself "They don't know what they're missing." And no, I don't feel a need to toss an insult back, either--I just, to quote Mister T, pity the fool.

(11,649 posts)i was channel surfing and saw he was on SNL.
i don't care if he's religious. it's his right to be. everyone has the right to worship or not worship in anyway they want, but it's wrong to call someone who doesn't believe an idiot.
that being said as much as i like bill maher i don't like it when he gets on christians and bugs them about their beliefs.

(135,425 posts)His characterizations are hilarious. See downthread.
I usually watch it if someone else isn't hogging the remote and watching stupid crime shows. Oh well! Maybe I will catch the rerun.

(881 posts)Kenan Thompson did that well of a job.

(135,425 posts)He turned Seth McFarlane into a carbon copy of SH, with the big tie and the pocket scarf, and the preacher-style suit. Oh, and the moustache!

(881 posts)He did "The Steve Harvey Show" with a guest played by Edward Norton.
Ed Norton played a costume shop owner that was bringing out people in costumes based on word play and having "Steve" guess what they meant.

(135,425 posts)"Steve" should be proud of his impersonation skills! I find those skits hilarious, especially when he gets up in the "Steve Harvey STYLE" which is certainly unique!
