Texas: Republicans Blame Wendy Davis for Complications Caused by Their Voter ID Law

Republicans Blame Wendy Davis for Complications Caused by Their Voter ID Law

Thanks to Wendy Davis' leadership, thousands of people who would have been turned away from the polls this week were still able to vote. Unfortunately, Republicans, including State Elections Director Keith Ingram, are blaming her leadership for the complications that have arisen due to their discriminatory Voter ID law.

As the Lone Star Project reported earlier this week, Director Ingram specifically blamed Senator Davis in a response to a grievance filed by a Texas voter. Obviously, this isn't the kind of leadership we should be seeing from our State Elections Director who serves all Texans, and not just Governor Perry who appointed him.

In the politically-charged letter, Ingram lies in saying that the Voter ID law only changed the way people with maiden names voted in "one important respect," referring to the affidavit. He then mentions Senator Wendy Davis by name, and describes her amendment. In purposeful oversight, our State Elections Director chose not to include that before the Davis amendment, people whose names did not match precisely with what was on the voter rolls would be denied the right to vote altogether. What Wendy Davis provided as a solution to the Voter ID law problem, Republicans are now trying to spin as an additional burden- even though they introduced this unnecessary law in the first place.

2. You know they are. And it's just not in Texas they are afraid of her.

Do a search for the website "The Real Wendy."

Wendy Davis has national legs. I hope we get her for one term in Texas before we have to share her with the nation, though.

in the Fort Worth area (i'm not an expert just telling you what Ive seen from working as a volunteer at the County level
off and on since 2008...same county Wendy is from.)

...They are using some of the Obama organizations techniques for getting people involved.
And it's working. That's how she got elected at the state level a few years ago in the first place.

I don't know if we are to the turning point yet, but we are close. If Tarrant County can go blue (and we are a light shade of pink now not solid red),
she may be able to toast the Republican (I hope).

What people don't really understand is that Texas is not majority Republican, but it's voting districts have been f-up on purpose...
and also less conservative people have become not as motivated to vote. And statistically women don't vote as much as in Texas for some reason.
But that is also changing.

Like I said, I hope the work will pay off and she will win.

She's dynamic enough and real enough (she's the real deal) that she may be able to do this. I have real hope as a Texas Democrat.
Like I said, I hope Abbot will be toast.

8. Matt and Dolly Angle have been pushing against the wind for many many years now.

Their Lone Star project has been working behind the scenes for Democratic causes, included arguing before the Supreme Court, that affect Texas for a VERY long time. If Wendy Davis does manage to get elected governor, it will be because Matt and Dolly have been plowing the road against overwhelming odds when it seemed (and often was) futile. If and when Wendy is elected Governor next year, Matt and Dolly will be there in the first row celebrating, and no one outside of Texas will even know who they are. If it doesn't work this time, they will not give up, even when Democrats in other states keep yelling for us to drop into the Gulf.

They are tireless and really REALLY good people.

When I read about people begging for us to secede, I know it's because they're completely unaware of people like Matt and Dolly. Dolly one took a nephew of mine as a summer intern in DC during the Cheneybush years.
