Why is Chris Matthews talking about Mike Dukakis riding around back in 1988? That horrible photo op screw-up of 25 years ago is such a horrible memory. Why is he bringing this up now?

1. because Obama is smarter and has better instincts than Dukakis.

2. Because it is pure, pure politics.

For instance, it is like hearing, reading or seeing in the movie what was really going on between McCain, Steve Schmidt and Sarah Palin.

It is a story about how political decisions are actually, not the kind of PR spin that we usually get in daily newspapers or blogs or TV horserace blather shows.

I love this kind of 'what really happened' political accounting. This is a 25 year old question i.e., why did Dukakis do it? And now we know.
