Oh sure, there's nothing there for President Obama to be proud of. In 2001 there was a budget surplus, with a plan to pay off the national debt by 2010. Then, by a combination of Roger Aile's creative negative champagne advertising and the Republican Party’s Kangaroo Supreme Court, the GOP was able to steal the presidency. The following six years of Republican control of all branches of the Federal Government produced trickle down tax cuts that didn't work, the creation of capital gains tax shelters, an increase in the defense budget from $300 million to $700 billion, an increase in the national debt from $5.6 trillion to $10 trillion, an increase in Medicare/Medicaid from $225 billion to $831 billion, a doubling of the interest paid on the national debt, a devaluation of the US dollar by printing money to pay for two unfunded wars, a monopolization of the energy industry resulting in the price of gasoline climbing to $4.20/gallon and a deregulation of the financial industry resulting in the "Great Recession of 2008".
President Obama's administration enacted the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 which turned around what was a 800,000/month job loss within one month to 300,000/month and to positive job creation within one year and created 25 months of straight job growth. It infused $297 billion into the economy by direct tax cuts to individuals, $231 billion in contract, grants and loans and $224 billion for entitlements which shored up the states and saved public sector jobs. President Obama is also responsible for rescuing the U.S. auto industry, ending the Iraq war, creating the surge in Afghanistan that has lead to the scheduled withdrawal by 2014, passed the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act to hold Wall Street accountable, prevent future financial crises, and end the era of “too big to fail”, beginning the reduction of the defense budget, eliminating "Don't ask Don't tell", securing the borders more than any other administration, increasing energy production and accelerating oil distribution to the refineries, orchestrating the passing of the Affordable Care Act and yes, set into motion a program that brought Al-Qaeda to justice, including the killing of Osama bin Laden.
