Ok, so Jan Brewer just needs to sign this to give government sanction to intolerance. But beware of what you ask for as the old saying says. In Arizona the average state income tax bill is about $500 per person. If a church was established and asked for a tithe of about $50, and the church's canon strictly forbid paying any money to a government agency as a violation of God's will, then those church members, under this law, would be exempt from paying Arizona income tax. Every tax paying resident in Arizona could "join" this church and Arizona would go broke.

(33,060 posts)We have to change the system of wealthy states giving money to poorer states. I refuse to bail out Arizon when we can't bail out Detroit - which always breaks blue.
