From Ring of Fire:
Republican Representative Mike Pompeo (Kansas) has introduced the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act. The bill would prevent a number of states from requiring genetically modified foods (GMOs) be labeled as such.
If the bill should pass, only ingredients that are suspected of presenting a potential health or safety risk would be required to be reported on labeling.
Pompeo believes that the labeling is largely unnecessary, according to RawStory, as the GMO foods are equally as safe as natural foods. The companies that produce the foods also claim that they are safe.

(11,417 posts)People don't want GMO food. But it isn't important what people want or don't want.
Corporations are our overlords now. Science that brings wealth to the one percent is good for us ignorant fools. Just eat your gruel and shut up!

(42,239 posts)GM labelling.
In the EU, if a food contains or consists of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), or contains ingredients produced from GMOs, this must be indicated on the label. For GM products sold 'loose', information must be displayed immediately next to the food to indicate that it is GM.
On 18 April 2004, new rules for GM labelling came into force in all EU Member States.
The GM Food and Feed Regulation (EC) No. 1829/2003 lays down rules to cover all GM food and animal feed, regardless of the presence of any GM material in the final product.
This means products such as flour, oils and glucose syrups have to be labelled as GM if they are from a GM source.

(1,580 posts)The repukes are going out of their way to insult and alienate the American people. Assholes like Pompeo take pride in their own stupidity and are overly demonstrative of the fact they are corrupt and have been bought off.

(1,140 posts)That's always bothered me. The other thing is why haven't there been independent studies done on these? If its really just fine, then there should be no problem with letting it be studied and letting people know what's in the food they're eating.
