Cruz / Rubio 2016

Let me put on my flame proof suit... OK. If anyone cares my favorite pizza is mushrooms and onions. That's the best pie in my opinion. Long time reader, don't post much because there is a pretty high purity test on this board. That being said, I think we underestimate Ted Cruz at our peril. The guy is well spoken and personally I feel he could give Hillary Clinton a problem in the debates.

7. You are overestimating Cruz.

His appeal is strictly to the fanatical base of the republican party. That won't win a national election. When he shut down the government for nothing, he lost any chance he might have had. Cruz is not a leader he's a rabble rouser.

Cruz would be the ideal republican candidate from a Democratic perspective.

In fact he represents the complete failure of the Tea Party... He will be most noticed in the primaries
where he will lead the republicans on a fast track to the bottom...

14. The GOP is now controlled by the teabaggers. The base is as you describe it: fanatical.

He will probably win the primary, but in the general, his craziness won't work across the USA.

... with tea-bagger support. From Dems point of view, he'd be an ideal opponant. Swing voters will flee from his candidacy. He's as much a lightweight as Palin or Bachmann
