(145,481 posts)I love Wendy Davis but the Lt. Governor candidate in Texas may have a better chance of winning. First, the Lt. Governor's office is more powerful in Texas than the office of governor. Leticia van de Putte is a class act and is running against a real nut case named Dan Patrick. Patrick is truly crazy and Hispanic voters (including republican Hispanic voters) are scared of him

(145,481 posts)The Lt. Governor controls and is in charge of the Texas Senate and so can control the calendar of all bills and the chairmanships of all of the committees. Bob Bullock used to be Lt. Governor of Texas and it was a given that the was more powerful than the govenror
The governor major power is the veto. In Texas, the Governor can not really pardon anyone but he merely makes recommendations to the pardon board. Perry's power in Texas lies in the fact that he has appointed so many board members.

Let's hope the hobby lobby decision gets fire in the belly of dems here and helps us to GOTV.

(12,165 posts)It's selfish, short-sighted and naive to believe that a republican would be better in the senate than a moderate dem.

(2,004 posts)He is getting very little help from the national party. He is a good candidate and if he got some help he could beat the slimeball governor we have now. Kasich gets a free pass from the state and federal news media. His administration is so corrupt it is shocking that there is no media attention.

(10,716 posts)Ohio should be moving forward with R & D in the area of renewable energy, not suspending it. Germany is headed toward fossil-fuel-freedom as I type. Unbelievable.

(2,004 posts)The fossil fuel industry in Ohio gets a pass by the state media. The costs to the health of Ohioans from the fossil fuel industry are massive, but it never gets any coverage in the media. At the same time, the media completely ignore the corrupt relationships between Bob Murray(Murray Energy Corp ) and the GOP in Ohio. Like why did the OhioEPA director get fired one day after he had a meeting with Bob Murray?
Our electricity prices keep going up and the electric coop keeps blaming EPA regulations for the price increases and, again, the news media ignores the electric company lies and allows their propaganda to go unanswered.

In 2010, investments totaling 26 billion euros were made in Germanys renewable energies sector. According to official figures, some 370,000 people in Germany were employed in the renewable energy sector in 2010, especially in small and medium sized companies. This is an increase of around 8 percent compared to 2009 (around 339,500 jobs), and well over twice the number of jobs in 2004 (160,500). About two-thirds of these jobs are attributed to the Renewable Energy Sources Act[27][28]
