2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhat took Obama so long?
Walgreens resorted to becoming a "Swiss Company" in order to escape US taxes, but
their large numbers of drugstores throughout the US are still making money here -- and
lots of it.
As it is, billionaires are already paying taxes at a far lower rate than their secretaries do,
but they are trying to rake in all the money without paying any taxes at all. This means
that the American middle-class will have to pay still more to make up the difference.
Finally, after nearly 6 years at the job, Obama is reacting:

(14,755 posts)At least that's what some DUers were saying yesterday.
And, they also argued that talk is all he's capable of doing as President, so it's not his fault.

The oil corps are already testing deeper waters of the eastern seaboard. It is not "lets see whether or not this will happen." It will happen if they get through the USA permit process. And if their testing finds enough oil to make wells worth the cost.

(22,651 posts)Walgreen's does bring in a lot of local sales tax money to their communities.
They are not an online business.
They do hire local people and disabled people.
Walgreen's has also lost a lot of business to the new mega health care complexes. Where an insured person goes to see their Doctor. They have in clinic common surgery. And they also have an in clinic pharmacy so people get the prescription filled in the mega complex.
Just wondering why the media focus is on just one pharmacy, when all businesses can dodge income taxes. And they all do.

Regular people better not get on the wrong side of the IRS. They'll take your home and control any bank accounts you have until they are paid.

(3,163 posts)Obama jumped on the economic inequality bandwagon, too. How long did that last? A week or two. I think he featured it in three speeches.
His advisors read the papers, and if something is in the headlines for a few days they will have him make it his "cause du jour" at a couple of fund raisers. This latest one, the castigation of companies doing "inversions" was during a fundraising trip in California.
During remarks to a rowdy crowd at the Los Angeles Technical College, Obama promoted what he called "economic patriotism" and made clear he believed the companies that were engaging in such practices were not being patriotic. The president is in California on a three-day fund-raising swing for Democrats.
Something else will have caught his advisors' attention by next week.
