Does anyone else feel we're going on the wrong direction?

Last edited Thu Sep 4, 2014, 04:18 PM - Edit history (1)

What the hell is going on in this country? Hatred in politics is at an all time high. The economy is still in the tanks. Many FT jobs are being replaced with PT jobs and reduced rates. Spying on Americans for no reason. Fake cell towers in the US, with no audit trail as to who built them? Buying elections due to idiotic decisions by the SC.

You know, back in the late 1900's (1970 - 1999), this country was thriving. Politics was no where near the ignorance and hatred it is today(total gridlock). And I mean TOTAL gridlock. Jobs were plentiful back then. And you actually liked your job. Now we have shitty jobs with shitty pay, and you're lucky to get benefits. The real UE rate now is around 12%. The digital age is upon us, and people are hacking into our privacy big time. So what went wrong? And better yet, how in the hell are we going to fix it?

It's the older generation that is holding us back. They only listen to one side and are 100% in bed with the GOP.

The younger generation is much more progressive and not in bed with any party.

We will be fine.

You're definitely one of the good ones.

And, I'm not young either.

I'm part of the older generation, and have been disappointed with a good number of my peers since the '80's. Most of the people I grew up with have become very far right wing, including relatives on my dad's side. I knew when Reagan was elected that we took the wrong road, and wasn't even into politics until much later. I was too young to vote, but didn't like Reagan's brand of American exceptionalism. I could actually "feel" a sense of dread. Pres Carter wanted us to conserve energy, Reagan essentially said, "F#ck that! we're Americans!" God, little did I know.

Being 72 yrs old, my memories go back to when Truman was in office, but didn't understand much then. By the late 50s, this country was leading the world in the post-WW2 recovery, and I volunteered four yrs active(1960) in the military, as it was still a thing to do. I became a blue collar working guy, and did quite a few labor strikes over the years. I don't think our age group was so big into ass-kissing celebrities and millionaires the way it goes on now. I think we had more of a "I deserve to have a decent living", compared to how the media explains to the people that only the elites deserve it, and everyone bends over. I definitely wouldn't volunteer anything for this country now after watching a tiny part of the population carry on two wars for over ten years. If some scumbag billionaire or corporation decides they want to voice their opinion on anything, the networks rush their cameras over to give them airtime. I think the common people had more pride in themselves also. At least that's the way it looked to me.

Every person is passionate about one or two things.

If you love guns, hate abortions, are racist, etc., you search out media that makes you feel better about those things. If that media is telling you that liberals are against the things you love, then you start to hate liberals. Pretty soon you're only going to right wing sites that tell you how great guns are for the world and how evil Obama and liberals are for the world. You start to believe every conspiracy theory about Obama because it's all you see.

People can pick and choose the media they watch or read based on ideology. That was not the case before the Internet.

The ex-president Bush with an all time low approval rating of 27% is hailed as a great Republican. Yet, Obama's 45% approval is somehow not high enough. Then you have the slash and burn congress who are leaving a good many people in the dust trying to protect their "entitlist" value system over a strong middle class.

I've been on here for months calling out the GOP for their ignorance, hatred and view of where this country should go. I still cannot understand why anyone in their right mind still support the GOP. They're killing the middle class on a daily basis. If something is not done soon to save the middle class, we're all in for a rude awakening.

Yep, I'm concerned. Very concerned.
