Americans Elect forced to abandon campaign to break two-party system

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/may/15/americans-elect-abandons-campaign?newsfeed=true

Americans Elect announced that despite $35m raised and more than 400,000 online delegates gathered, no candidate had attracted sufficient support to go ahead to a national convention. The failure leaves the privately-organised effort in crisis and the dream of a genuine alternative to the Democratic-Republican establishment in tatters.

Of course, not a surprise. I wonder where that $35m raised will go? Sounds like a scam from the start - raise money, pump up expectations, get positive media, raise more money and then announce there isn't enough support to carry forward.

Hm...

Regardless, glad this sham is over.

They have to go through the front door (Rmoney) where everyone can see the crimes they are committing.

3. Interesting, the email I got from them this morning suggests that they aren't giving up, but

instead will try to re-vamp the rules for a candidate. Geez, I already deleted it, or I'd give more details.

There is a reason why I ignored their "campaign" from the start. I can see now that I was right.

Only the $10,000+ donors are getting their money back.

Overally idealistic people, it seems, were hoodwinked into their nonsense.

Are we talking "scam" here? As an aside, I heard on NPR today that AE has resisted disclosing its top donor list, and somebody somewhere is suing to have it made public.
