NYT: GOP donor wants to resurrect Jeremiah Wright attacks

By Aamer Madhani, USA TODAY
Updated 1h 39m ago

A group of Republican strategists working with the wealthy businessman Joe Ricketts are considering resurrecting a line of attack on President Obama that reminds voters of his links to his former pastor the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

The New York Times reports that the plan calls for running commercials linking Obama to incendiary comments by his former spiritual adviser, whose race-related sermons made him a controversial figure in the 2008 campaign. The proposal is overseen by GOP strategist Fred Davis and commissioned by Ricketts, the founder of the brokerage firm TD Ameritrade. Ricketts family also owns the Chicago Cubs.

"The world is about to see Jeremiah Wright and understand his influence on Barack Obama for the first time in a big, attention-arresting way," says the proposal obtained by the Times.

1. The best way for Obama to fight this type of stuff is to ignore it.

It won't work because the people this tribal minded attack would affect are already voting against the President. Obama has been president for four years; they have a pretty good idea of who he is. America is becoming a more diverse country and most people are comfortable with that. The Willie Horton add wouldn't work today either. It would backfire.

about Rmoney's religious indoctrination. After all he has not been forthcoming about that issue. In addition, all bets will be off in regards to the all aspects of Bain Capital too!

Unknown first time Senator from Illinois, what makes them think it works now? They are so stuck in their thinking they can't change with the times. Good. Let them waste their money.

If by chance it get any traction we will go after Mormonism and John Smith government busting beliefs; they will cry 'religious discrimination', we will spin their hypocrisy, and the American public will curse both houses thereby muddying the issue and rendering the Wright issue moot—just like the republicans do it.

Rev. Wright on tape of the interview he gave to this Klein clown.

He is playing some 'selected' excerpts on his show and I have to say, it does not sound good.

Heads up. It's a coming...

I thought I knew most of their stuff but learned a bit more.

I think if the truth about their beliefs was known people would run from Romney...

I heard I am not sure when maybe 30-40 years ago they decided to make themselves seem more mainstream to not offend others and to bring more people in.
