If You Think Jeb Bush Is A Moderate, Then You Missed His 1994 Campaign

If You Think Jeb Bush Is A Moderate, Then You Missed His 1994 Campaign

The cornerstone of Bush's campaign was a sweeping set of conservative proposals that, if enacted, would have made Florida a virtual laboratory for far-right policy.

"I would abolish the Department of Education as it now exists, reducing the 2,000 person bureaucracy to about 50 to administer federal education funding and maintain minimum academic standards in Florida's schools," Bush told the Orlando Sentinel in a November 1994 interview.

Bush also laid out a plan to require that any proposed new taxes be approved directly by Florida voters, a strategy that would have made it nearly impossible to pass them. What state revenue there was, Bush said, should be used whenever possible to hire private corporations to replace state employees.

"We must push privatization [of government] in every area where privatization is possible," Bush told the Sentinel.

I just love the attention span of the average American. Six years ago, the thought of a bush running for office was laughable to anyone. The family name was toxic, even they knew it. Shrub had really screwed things up for the bush dynasty.

Once the party gets through trashing Christie, I expect them to rally around jeb. I will be surprised if he doesn't get the nomination, and the support of all the repub morons.

He's pro immigration reform. He's for common core.

I don't think those Republicans who vote (tea party) will select him.

But maybe the money people will find a way to shoe horn him into the nomination.

Terri Schiavo wasn't as far back (2005). People near universally rejected what Jeb, his brother, and the near entirety of the Republican Congress and the right-wing hate machine did to her trying to take control of the family's personal tragedy and especially how they drug her husband's reputation through the mud. Moderate? Pfffft. Which isn't to say, of course, that he couldn't still get nominated and possibly even win in the GE (though Hillary, if she runs, would likely be the stronger candidate).
