(13,877 posts)skating in the Governor's Mansion. Governor Moonbeam was also common. Actually, he is or was a Zen Buddhist. I liked him, personally, and still do, but his reputation precedes him.

(15,682 posts)when Richardson switched teams to endorse Obama? As far as I know there has been no reconciliation.

From June 2014:
'You know I'm not in the 'Ready for Hillary' camp, right, he told the Washington Post Monday. It's because of our differences when I endorsed Obama.'
'The differences haven't healed, and I'm not in the suck-up camp, said Richardson, who had a highly publicized falling-out with Bill and Hillary during the 2008 presidential campaign.
Have I missed a more recent announcement?

(96 posts)1. Hillary has not said whether or not she is running
2. The 2016 DNC convention is 18 months away
3. Much can happen during those 18 months
I am quite exhausted by the perpetual political churn on the news, blogs, etc. We just completed a fruitless mid-term election 3 months ago. I think we need to give things a rest and let potential candidates make their decisions about running and as they move toward having enough votes to win the nomination, then begin to look at potential running mates.
But since you are speculating......Hillary should avoid an old white guy. She should avoid another woman. She should look at national demographics and onboard preferably a Hispanic (one of the Castro brothers perhaps) or even an Asian-American.

I thought Dems were better than this, but it seems we are no better than the other side in running "a token". How about someone with strong character and intellect regardless of their race or sex. YES, I recognize the political realities (in that a candidate may want a running mate popular in a certain state), but in the left's quest for equality, it seems it has become politically expedient to be "against" old white males, virtually practicing the EXACT same bigotry as those on the right, just against a less infallible character.

(18,619 posts)Any law preventing a past president from becoming Vice President later?
The 22nd Amendment says he cannot be elected again as President. Still a horrible idea. If she is elected I see him as possibly UN Ambassador (that would be the best role for him I think). A lesser possibility, and one that would have no chance of confirmation, would be the Supreme Court.
It is difficult to find jobs appropriate for former presidents. William Howard Taft comes to mind. Andrew Johnson was a senator. John Quincy Adams was a representative. Hoover fed Europe after the war. Carter built houses. Teddy Roosevelt ruined his health in South America, came back, and split the Republican party in his egoism.

Republican heads would explode of course...a woman on top and a Hispanic VP. The pukes will be rabid, but it sure would bring them out and let the whole country see how awful they are.

(59,500 posts)1) He has baggage and it kept him from joining the Obama cabinet.
2) The Clintons never forget what they consider a betrayal -- and he is as good an example as any -- when they thought he was lined up to endorse HRC in 2008, he endorsed Obama.

Can we vote for a candidate first, instead of auto-populating the office? Can we just fucking vote?

discussion site...especially a site to discuss Democrats of which at least most of us are or should be.
We can talk about the Pope changing his pope hat for a political hat and his nationality and becoming a Democrat nominee if we want to. That's for VP, of course. He hasn't declared yet either. We can talk about a ticket with Barney Frank or Billy Jean King. (if she's still around) Get the point?
I only detect it around Hillary, too. She's not my first choice, either. But I'm a pragmatist and at stake are two appointments to SCOTUS, likelihood of all three branches in the R column. Also, kiss your Social Security "socialism" goodbye. Think it's bad now? We must have a winner THIS TIME (Hillary deniers) or we're going to fade into oblivion for a long time.
The Hispanic bloc is the fastest growing minority in the country, that's why they so feared the Dreamers.
Thus, Clinton/Castro 2016 !!! Then Castro/______ 2022 !!
Edit: OMG 2024
