Related: About this forumHow Much Will Israel/Adelson Spend To Kill Rand Paul's Presidential Run?
Sheldon Adelson says he won't pick the GOP presidential nominee until next year. But that doesn't mean he and Miriam are sitting around clipping coupons now. As Israel's top political enforcer for the American Republican Party, Adelson's work is never done. Even if they haven't decided who to get behind for the presidency yet, they know one Republican Israel hates even more than Obama: Rand Paul. And Adelson isn't having any of it. Note: Paul would, in all likelihood, make an abysmal president, one of the worst imaginable. But that doesn't mean he's wrong about everything. In fact, many of the things Adelson and Israel fear the most from the Kentucky Republican are among the more alluring prospects around his campaign.
He doesn't buy into the rote right-wing tyranny and suppression of civil liberties that has become part and parcel of the dominant Adelson wing of the GOP. And, whatever else you can say about Paul, his primary loyalty is to the United States and the American people, not to Israel. Adelson is determined to nip this one in the bud-- and he has the money to do it-- and growing backing for an aggressive foreign policy from the Republican base pushed, as usual, by our corporate yellow journalists.
...(T)he hawkishness now defining the early campaign could imperil the presidential hopes of Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky, the libertarian-leaning Republican who embraces a more restrained approach to American engagement with the world.

(184 posts)I guess you'll be voting for Rand then... maybe Ron could be his running mate. I've got an idea, perhaps they could start a newsletter and have Lew Rockwell edit it. That would be a great way to get their message out. And once they are elected they can make Alex Jones the secretary of state. Wouldn't that be nice? Sounds horrible to me, but then again I didn't write a post on DU to tell people how "loyal" Rand Paul is to the United States.

(112,160 posts)Since you are a newbie I will cut you some slack, but you shouldn't accuse anyone on this site of voting for any Republican. Just because someone posts an article from another source does not mean that someone is an advocate for a particular candidate or issue. The post is about politics and within the SOP of this forum.

(184 posts)I probably shouldn't have jumped to conclusions. I'm not really sure why I posted that. I guess I just really dislike the Paul's. Sorry for the undeserved venom.

(112,160 posts)I know that we sometimes write things in haste when we are passionate about issues and that was my take on your response. I don't believe that anyone on DU would hope for Rand Paul to become the next president or any other position in a White House administration.

Was that intentional? It might have been far more to the point than intended.
What I would have assumed is that the OP's meaning was that Adelson would make HIS choice for the Republican nominee until next year.
But as worded, one might infer that he alone would decide the Republican nominee. With his money, and depending on what Rove raises and the Kochs spend, it might have been more accurate than was ever intended.
