2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumElizabeth Warren’s good news for Bernie Sanders fans
Progressives have a mixed bag today.
Politico is reporting that the group most ardently advocating for Sen. Elizabeth Warren to run for president in 2016 is folding its tent. It realizes that the quest is futile.
Top pro-Elizabeth Warren group says shes out
While some of us who have supported a Warren candidacy are disappointed, we can be consoled that the progressive wing of the party will still be ably represented by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who's star has been rising fast since he announced his candidacy a month ago.
We explain the main reason Sanders has bolted out of the gate with such an impact in our post today
Bernie Sanders gains traction with plain speaking, authenticity
It comes down to one word: authenticity!
Bernie is the real deal.
He will be a great standard bearer for the progressive wing of the Democratic Party and is already exerting a positive influence on it.
If he accomplishes nothing else, Sanders will catapult a mature discussion of really important issues into an otherwise irrelevant slugfest between Americas two dynastic family clans.

(7,865 posts)The news is mixed. Had Warren run I would have reconsidered my support for Sanders. I really wanted her to run but had chosen Sanders because she had stated several times that she hadn't.
Some of the hold-outs for Warren will probably drift towards Sanders. Which is definitely good news for Sanders and those that support him. What would be really good news is if she endorses him, but I don't think we should expect her to endorse anyone for a few months.

(14,807 posts)he might very well ask her to be VP. This would place her possibly for future President. This is my call and how I see it. They may be two pillars of support to their agenda.

(19,537 posts)From my discussion with a certain senator, I think that was what was holding her back from running.
I think she would have ran if for whatever reason Hillary pulled out, or perhaps she'd agree to be VP for Sanders if he wins the nomination too.
I think her being VP would also help the perception that Sanders might be too old to go for two terms as president too. Having someone like Elizabeth Warren to run in 2020 if he were to not run for reelection would be a good thing to have in his pocket then.

From your first link (the politico one) this was to entire headline:

As Run Warren Run closes down, Sanders and OMalley fight to claim its mantle.

The organizations recognition that the Massachusetts senator truly wont run is a significant shift in the Democratic presidential contest, in which Warren has been a shadow candidate even as she has repeatedly insisted she would not pursue the White House. But the prime driver of pro-Warren enthusiasm is acknowledging that its time and resources would be better spent influencing the national discussion in another way entirely, while Sanders builds grass-roots momentum and OMalley ratchets up his campaign by targeting liberals.
The group which has been getting less and less attention as actual candidates enter the race and jockey for Warren supporters will shift its focus to supporting the senators legislative work that effectively pressures the front-runner Clinton from the left, starting with opposition to fast-track trade deals.
They are not saying they support Sanders.

(11,626 posts)And I wanna say this to all of DU. This a strong feeling of mine.
Supporters are different than fans.
I support political candidates. I support some much more than others.
I am a fan of Bob Dylan.
My first reality as a person who participates in politicks is to remember: I am not a fan when it comes to trying to get a person elected.
Supporting why they represent does not make me a fan. It makes me a supporter of a person that supports what I believe in.
I guess I have a bugs boo about the use of the word Fan when it comes to politics.
Once agan, to DU!
