Perry says of the U.S.: ‘It kind of feels like 1979 again’

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Rick Perry on Monday continued to cast himself as the conservative leader with military credentials necessary to lead America.

The former governor said his time “wearing the uniform” as a pilot in the Air Force painted his world view and “brought home to him” that America is an extraordinary country.

“I’m optimistic about this country,” Perry said. “Our best days are in front of us.”

But Perry contends America is in the doldrums, much like in the late 1970s, when the job participation rate was low, a Soviet grain embargo was in effect, and hostages were taken after the U.S. Embassy in Iran was overrun.

Jeez, these assholes know no shame at all. Over on DI, there was a post decrying how many people Obama has killed, like 138 the last few weeks or something like that. Saying he should ask Dubya for advice on how to end the war Dubya couldn't end himself? Then he comes back in another post and compares Dubya to Eisnenhower, for christ's sake.

Where do they get these audacious lying bastards?

They just pull the most bombastic bullshit or spin some historical moment out if thin air, no concern for reality at all.

A never ending parade of mindless dimwits trying to out hyperbole one another in one huge bubble that WANTS to believe this kind of shit.

Right-wingers have been stuck in the late 70s since, well, the late 70s.

Taxes are always high, inflation is always high, the Bronx is always burning, the Big Threat is always looming, crime is always sky-high, and hippie-peaceniks always want to sing "Kumbaya" and unilaterally disarm. Every cop should be Dirty Harry, every suburban homeowner should be Charles Bronson, and gummint byooooreaucrats need a dose of Chuck Norris.

They've been playing that card for 35 years.
