'I like Obama'...

I was at the grocery store today in Salt Lake City when a man noticed by Obama bumper sticker. He pointed at it from afar and started walking toward me. I was nervous that he would start in on me because he was an older guy with a Midshipmen hat on and, well, I guess I stereotyped.

He walked up to me and said, "I noticed your Obama sticker..."

I hesitated, "Yeah. Gotta show my support, right?"

He then smiled and said, pointing to his hat, "I like Obama. I didn't vote for him in '08 - obviously."

Well, I told him that I understood and he said, "But, and I'm Mormon, I'm seriously thinking about it. I don't trust Romney and his and the Republicans attacks on him, I don't know, they just don't sit well with me. I never agree with attacking our President in such vile manner - I didn't like it with Bush, Clinton or Reagan and I certainly don't like it with Obama."

I told him that the discourse in this country was just nasty and I could really see why people were fed up with it. He then told me that he only voted Democratic once, for Johnson in '64 and it was solely because of Kennedy's assassination. But that this November, even though he didn't agree with Obama on everything, he was seriously contemplating casting his vote for him. He ended by saying, "We're still struggling, but at least he's trying...can't say that about members of my own party."

And then I shook his hand, thanked him for his service and he went and met up with his wife.

I was down today after the recall. But this really helped lift my spirits.

Let's get it done in November. We can do it. We will do it.

and so does my cat. I'm less impressed with President Obama, but I will vote for him in November because the alternative would be catastrophic. It's really sad that it has come to that, but I guess that's life in Amercia.

There has never been a time, at least in my lifetime (I'm 31) when the GOP wasn't repulsive. Anywho, my vote for Obama in Nov, will be because of his accomplishments. My vote for him will have nothing to do with the other side.
