2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumCan you predict tomorrow's terrible revelation about Bernie?
Yesterday was the accusation that, 40 years ago, as an MRA*, he concocted a theory that orgasms can cure cervical cancer - turned out that he had simply referenced a peer-reviewed scientific journal in an article he wrote.
Today he's guilty of ethics violations.
Any guesses on what gobstopping outrage will be unearthed tomorrow? Bernie never lets a day go by without masticating, often in public?
*yes, that was claimed on DU today.

Didn't think so. I've been waiting for a Bernie vs Republicans polls. Logic tells us in theory, that if Bernie is able to defeat Clinton in the primary, then Bernie should win in a massive landslide against any said Republican.
I know the secret to Bernie's path to the White House. Do you? You have to think outside of the picture. That's what Bernie is doing.

There are way more angry populists among Republicans than banksters and neocons. At least some will decide that they hate banksters more than non-white people.

DanTex
(20,709 posts)No. The Republicans are all horribly wrong on policy. But there are a lot of conservatives and moderates in the US. And winning a campaign these days requires a lot of cash.
I don't want this to be reality, but it is. Given the circumstances, Hillary is much better suited to take on the GOP than the other Dems.
Scootaloo
(25,699 posts)Yes, there are a lot of conservatives, and not a fucking one of them is going to vote for clinton, no matter how much she begs them to, with her promises of "bipartisanship" (which even you have to know means "letting republicans run roughshod"
and her complete dismissal of liberals and the left. Hinging your bet on the assumption that she'll somehow manage to "cross over" and pick up conservatives, to the point where her loss of the left in her own party's bse doesn't matter, is just plain stupid.
As I said. it amounts to you promoting Republicans. Whether that's your intent or not, it's how it ends up. You first promote the idea that Republicans are invincible and that the democratic field is too incompetent to beat them. Then you Push clinton, on hte presumptions that you think she will "do well" with conservative voters... Even after having acknowledged ot me that you know she won't do well with the left in her own party.
I don't think you want Clinton to win, DanTex.
DanTex
(20,709 posts)To say that a lot of people will vote for Republicans is not the same thing as saying that Republicans are good. A lot of people voted for W. A lot of people in Wisconsin voted for Scott Walker.
Fine, you can disagree with me about my assessment of the electorate's proclivities. Hey, maybe you're right, Bernie's motivating the left might offset his lack of funds and his perceived socialism. I don't think so, but that has nothing to do with "promoting Republicans".
Find me somewhere, anywhere, where I said anything good about what any Republican has stood for. Then you can accuse me of promoting Republicans. What I'm promoting is winning elections.
eta: speaking of the I/P Scootaloo, why aren't you outraged about Bernie's failure to call out apartheid, to stop the military aid, to call war crimes war crimes, and all that. Can I assume by that that you are implicitly in favor of giving Israel a pass? Or maybe you are a political realist sometimes too.

(27,835 posts)... but I've been known to indulge in the exercise upon occasion - WHO here ever said BS "concocted a theory that orgasms can cure cervical cancer"? From the first time that "story" (and a rather dumb one, at that) was posted here, it included the source, and the fact that BS was referencing a journal - and NOT that he had "concocted" any theory whatsoever.
As for your link, an OP entitled "Did Bernie Sanders Just Violate Senate Ethics Rules?" falls far short - in fact, light-years short - of claiming he is guilty of ethics violations.
With respect to the *yes, that was claimed on DU today, if you put an asterisk after every ridiculous claim made on DU today alone, the * on your keyboard would have been worn-out and non-functional by noon.

Conspiracy Theory: Larry David and Bernie Sanders Are Long-Lost Brothers
https://medium.com/%40JonathonNorcross/conspiracy-theory-larry-david-and-bernie-sanders-are-long-lost-brothers-21b3300d9e3
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is the long-lost brother of Larry David, of Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm fame. They were mysteriously separated at birth and are probably unaware of their true relationship. Can I prove it? Hell no. But I can list many coincidences that make my theory seem plausible. Lets begin by examining what we know (or think we know) about their backgrounds.
Larry David was born on July 2, 1947 in Brooklyn, New York. Bernie Sanders was born September 8, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York.
Larry David is Jewish. Bernie Sanders is Jewish.
Larry David grew up at 3655 Shore Parkway in Brooklyn. Bernie Sanders resided at East 26th and Kings Highway in Brooklyn. Their childhood homes were a mere 2 miles apart.
