2016 Postmortem

By Sunday, the rift between Sanders supporters and critics had gotten contentious. Roderick Morrow, a 36-year-old podcaster and comedian in Charlotte, North Carolina, pulled up a tried-and-true coping mechanism: the joke hashtag. #BernieSoBlack ended up trending nationally and fed a continuing controversy about whether Sanders and white progressives are taking racial inequality seriously enough.
Vox spoke to Morrow on Sunday evening about why he wasn't impressed with Sanders or his online fans, and whether he thinks the campaign and the progressive movement is responding to the demands of black progressives.

The old democratic party needs to be done away with like we are doing to the confederate flag. It is time.

Perhaps Roderick needs to spend less time online and pay attention to what's going in the real world. And while he's at it, a history lesson. And not get so bent out of shape over folks on Twitter. It would be like me attacking or not voting for Obama because the BOG is obnoxious.

(14,177 posts)I am not a mind reader. I can read text perfectly fine though. My reading comprehension is 98%. You are mischaracterizing what was written and now you are demanding an explanation from a second party? That is in very poor form.

(22,871 posts)I can read too. If a poster posts a "what about these white people who were arrested" in a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with white people getting arrested for protesting,I think it's safe to assume it was posted to show that the police arrest white people too. A tone deaf comparison if ever there was one.
Kalidurga
(14,177 posts)And you are in attacky mode because it's just not as bad as being oppressed for being darker skinned. Black people getting murdered is genocide that is bad. Arresting people for protesting over this treatment is bad. So is attacking someone for bringing the issue up. Try to be nicer.

(11,441 posts)But this "white progressives don't get it" bullshit is just that -- bullshit. White progressives are not the enemy. Republicans don't give a shit about blacks. Sensible Centrists aren't getting banged up at Occupy, or arrested at Moral Mondays. It's white progressives, along with minorities at MMs, who protested and were arrested. Topics ranged from voting rights, economic justice, social justice, womens' rights, labor rights, etc. Sorry, I'm not impressed with divisive Twitter loudmouths. Especially one who is bent out of shape over a politician's online fans. It's too fucking stupid for words.

(297,382 posts)..they are more polite than the people who just call you the n-word or a racial slur or something. It's more like that passive-aggressive "We're on the same side, man!" where clearly they don't want you to talk about anything that their candidate can do better, but they do want you to just vote for him."
Thanks for the link, Janey

(46,179 posts)It's worth reading.
It's clear that the issue is, not as much Sanders or his campaign, but those supporters of his campaign who aren't "getting" the message.
This Sanders supporter is making an effort to do just that.
