2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumJust a thought on all the discourse here
I am going to quote my incredibly intelligent grandmother, who I still miss dearly
"The more that'll be said about it, the more there'll said about it."
Let's make "IT" the right thing.
"There's so much good in the worst of us, and so much bad in the best of us, it little behooves any of us, to talk about the rest of us."
That's all.

(3,498 posts)Can we expect to raise
the level of discourse when
it's acceptable to express
vitriol and contempt for
those with whom we disagree...
even rethuglicans?

(3,498 posts)If we are appealing to our better natures
it seems confusing as to who exactly is
"deserving" of vitriol or harsh criticism?
For many, neo-liberal policies are as
deserving of ridicule or harangue
as any right-wing policy or proponent.
IMO it would better serve our interests
to raise the bar across the board rather
than allow for selective or arbitrary negativity.
When we give voice to negativity directed
at others it inevitably engenders more
of the same until "the chickens come home to roost"
Fostering a negative and vitriolic attitude
only fuels more negativity and vitriol
regardless of who it's directed at...
because, "The more that'll be said about it,
the more there'll said about it."

(17,997 posts)And discussing policy and positions is the best thing. But when it comes to the GOP, fine, I'm a hypocrite. Their policies and positions are inhumane. So, for me, all bets are off

(1,846 posts)I think the Netroots criticisms of Sanders response to BLM were completely legit. The tone / tenor of the back and forth between people arguing that Sanders supporters have a blind spot for BLM and Sanders supporters defending themselves has risen to the level of a pretty big distraction. While I think Bernie screwed up and his supporters are overly defensive, continually ascribing motives to them in a very aggressive tone changes the discussion to a completely different topic that won't help me choose a candidate.
The Hillary email posts are also nothing more than hyperbole around a non-issue. I think her policy positions, to the extent you an learn them, are much more important.
Lastly, it would be great to hear more about Bernie's foreign policy philosophies and his actual legislative history related to POC than polls and rally counts. He's solid in some areas, but the information is thin in others.
IMO, the advocates are missing something important. Undecided people who read...consider before deciding disregard the "red meat", food fights, insults and hyperbole.
We're looking for data.....and any and all bluster is simply ignored.
