Copy of NRA letter to Issa on scoring contempt vote

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by ellisonz (a host of the 2016 Postmortem forum).

Linked in the other threads, but thought it was worth it's own, as this needs to get out everywhere

for private citizens, but when its done by the ATF when a democrat is in office, its an awful offense?

Seems a little hypocritical to me.

Don't hold him in contempt for failing to provide documents he's legally prohibited from providing; hold him in contempt because we don't like his ass and we won't give you a Hundred Percent NRA rating if you refuse to play ball--and that could fuck you up, so do what we say, or else.

I heard about this yesterday, but this is my first look at the letter. It's disgraceful! Outrageous! Talk about interfering in the course of governance!

This isn't lobbying, it's threatening and intimidation--and it's bigger than the NRA, it's a window into the soulless world of influence peddling.

The reason we support the contempt resolution is the same reason we first called for Attorney General Holder's resignation more than a year ago: the Department's obstruction of congressional oversight of a program that cost lives in support of an anti-gun agenda.

http://nraila.org/media/7733622/cc-letter-to-issa.pdf

1. Should there be no congressional oversight?

2. If it is appropriate to have congressional oversight, is the Committee entitled to documents in the possession of the Attorney General?

3. If the Committee is entitled to documents in the possession of the Attorney General, has Holder turned over all relevant documents?

4. If Holder has turned over all relevant documents, why is the Administration now claiming executive priviledge with respect to documents that have not been turned over?

5. If the Administration cannot show that there is a basis for asserting executive priviledge and Holder refuses to turn over relevant documents, doesn't this mean that there should be no congressional oversight?

The NRA is vile organization which has totally distorted the 2nd Amendment into an organization run for profit and political agenda.

But as Bill Maher correctly said earlier this year, the DNC and Obama have done nothing to speak out against it. Obama didn't say one word about the need for gun control, even after Gabrielle Giffords was gunned down. Back in the 1990's, at least Bill Clinton tried to take on the NRA for a while, but the current Democratic leadership has completely capitulated and is scared to stand up to it.
