When Hillary Rodham Clinton took aim at Jeb Bush in her speech at the National Urban League conference in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Friday, it overshadowed a noteworthy address by one of her rivals.

Martin O’Malley, the former Maryland governor, gave a sweeping criminal justice reform speech at the event, using the appearance as a chance to regain whatever standing he may have lost after “Black Lives Matter” protesters interrupted him at the Netroots Nation conference in Nevada a few weeks ago.

“Every year we bury 300 young black men who died violent deaths on our streets,” said Mr. O’Malley, invoking the phrase “Black Lives Matter,” which he stumbled over a few weeks ago and then apologized to activists.

He released a nine-page white paper that accompanied the speech, calling for major changes in policing and criminal justice.

(snip)

Mr. O’Malley consulted with several criminal justice experts in coming up with the plan. He was adamant on including the component about marijuana, as well as mandating data reporting by police departments.

He consulted, among others, with members of President Obama’s task force on 21st century policing. And he spoke with Kweisi Mfume, the former president of the N.A.A.C.P.; Charles Ogletree, a Harvard expert on criminal justice; and Jeff Smith, an assistant professor at the New School who has a book on the topic coming out this fall, an aide to Mr. O’Malley said.

they may not post much, but people are reading and people are considering.

We may not be the squeaky wheel, and that's ok, we don't need the grease! I am here to present and advocate for my choice in the primaries and that is all.

needs to get him in on with the talking heads. Bernie campaign is getting him airtime, Hillary is very selective on her airtime exposure, and though I think some that is to "play it safe", that is a double edged sword

Martin's campaign needs to get more aggressive to get him airtime exposures, and more visibility

to someone they perceive as an 'also ran,' like DUers.

He himself has said he's concentrating on the 'early' states now, spending lots of time in Iowa and NH (and then SC.) I suspect they think about this a lot, but let them know what you think; they're on Facebook etc.

Thanks.

our media couldn't chew gum and walk at the same time far less actually informing the electorate of the choices we have.

It's up to everyone on the ground right now.
