It is not enough to feel the O'M, you must *BE* the O'M

Yoga classes may help reduce healthcare costs in Maryland: Narendra Modi to Gov. Martin O’Malley

This article is from October 2014.

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested to the Governor of Maryland Martin O’Malley that introducing more yoga classes into health plans may help reduce healthcare costs, when the two met at the Blair House here, last month.

O’Malley had a high level meeting with Modi, where Dr. Rajan Natarajan, Deputy Secretary of State of Maryland, Sushma Swaraj, India’s external affairs minister and Dr. S. Jaishankar, the Indian Ambassador to the United States, were also present.
(snip)

O’Malley discussed Maryland’s Online and Distance Learning program at the University of Maryland University College and Montgomery College, and was keen to have a collaboration with India. Modi mentioned that India is in the process of signing an MOU with the United States to continue to build an international educational dialogue.

They also discussed new GIS technologies used both in India and in Maryland. O’Malley praised Modi’s vision to implement more innovative GIS technologies in India to protect fisheries and monitor forestry industries. The governor also commented that Maryland has adopted some of Indian GIS technologies for accurate mapping. Both leaders explored the opportunities for co-operation in areas such as, Information Technology, cyber security, biotechnology, life sciences and aviation.

Levity aside, I really appreciate that he met with India's prime minister and discussed some pretty important issues. They might not be super sexy issues, but they are important. These issues are important. I appreciate this diplomatic side if O'Malley.

Peace,
Raine

Before becoming leader of India he was a member of a fascist organization. He helped orchestrate or at least looked the other way while right-wing hindu mobs rampaged, killing approximately thousands of muslims in the indian state of gujarat, when he was governor. It would be like if the governor of a US State looked the other way while KKK mobs went on a rampage killing 1000s.

Arundhati Roy speaks on Narendra Modi and the 2002 Gujarat pogrom:

A senior police officer's sworn statement to India's Supreme Court alleges that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi deliberately allowed anti-Muslim riots in the state.
More than 1,000 people were killed in the violence in 2002.
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-south-asia-13170914

Even though he was officially cleared of any wrongdoing, he still did it. At the very least he was a top member of the same organization whose members were committing the rape and murder.

Thanks for pooping in a thread that was meant to be nice.

I refuse to debate an article that is totally alleged. and you should be ashamed of trying to smear this post.

Please forgive me in the future if I return it kind when I find that your candidate meets with someone I despise. Actually I won't because I respect your candidate more than I respect you right now.

You see, these are the kind of posts that people who are not Sanders supporters find a bit repelling.

Go poop someplace else. I am going to do some yoga.

I never stated who I thought your were supporting in this thread.

HAving said that, any one who becomes president if going to have to deal with international leaders regardless of whether you thin they are as you say: hitler sympathizers.

You are over the top. You are not helping. You are mean.

I am here to advocate for a person I would like to see nominated, it is that simple. I don't know why you are hear in this thread. I am of the opinion that you are not here to discuss issues, but would rather throw flame bait that has nothing at all to do with the OP.

Some of it is like disputed but I'm not really neutral.

See:

The prime minister, a Hindu nationalist and a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)[4][5] is a controversial figure domestically and internationally[6][7][8][9] because of criticism that, when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, his administration failed to prevent the 2002 Gujarat riots.[9]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narendra_Modi

On the RSS:
It has been criticised as an extremist organisation and as a paramilitary group.[2][3][6] It has also been criticised when its members participated in anti-Muslim violence [19] and has since formed militant wing Bajrang Dal.[16][20] Along with other extremist organisations the RSS was involved in a wide range of riots, often inciting and organising violence against Christians[21] and Muslims.[5]

During World War II RSS leaders openly admired Adolf Hitler.[40] Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar, who became the supreme leader of the RSS after Hedgewar, drew inspiration from Adolf Hitler's ideology of race purity.[41]
...

When it came to non-Hindu religions, Golwalkar's (who once supported Hitler's creation of a supreme race by suppression of minorities)[74] view on minorities was that of extreme intolerance. In a magazine article in 1998 some RSS, and its political offshoot BJP's members have been said to have distanced itself from M.S Golwalkar's views though not entirely.[75]

The non-Hindu people of Hindustan must either adopt Hindu culture and languages, must learn and respect and hold in reverence the Hindu religion, must entertain no idea but of those of glorification of the Hindu race and culture...in a word they must cease to be foreigners; Or may stay in the country, wholly subordinated to the Hindu nation, claiming nothing, deserving no privileges, far less any preferential treatment— not even citizens' rights
— M. S. Golwalkar[76]

...your repeated postings on this thread about an official meeting with one of our large state's governors is out of line and disruptive.

Most importantly, it shows your own lack of appreciation for the role our nation's leaders must assume in dealing with often controversial, but critical, allies and their representatives. There really are few more sensitive relationships, given our dealings with their rival, Pakistan. Also, India is a very important trading partner. It's interesting you believe the Maryland governor shouldn't have afforded the prime minister this courtesy of a meeting. Way to spark an international incident.

You're right. The USA has to work with him. Any president will have to meet with dirtbags. He's a very important elected leader of very big country.

Raine is right too, this shows O'Malley has this kind of diplomacy skill.

Personally I wouldn't glamorize this guy. Like the very nice graphic that says Keep Calm and O'M, like it gets a little cutesy and I think maybe it's better to really understand we're dealing with a very bad man here, and it's not something to get cutesy about.

You may disagree but this is a place for talking about this stuff, right? This is like the purpose of a discussion board right?

This is really good foreign policy experience for Martin O'Malley. It really shows that he can talk to world leaders and sit down with them.

The US has to deal with Modi as he is an elected leader of very big country. I'm sure we could also find pics of President Obama with Modi, and stuff like that.

Honestly, my earlier comments were only directed at the Indian leader not at O'Malley. That guy did rise to power as a member of a fascist organization that praised Hitler and Mussolini.

I also want to compliment the creative and visually appealing graphic design of the "Keep Calm and O'M On" graphic. That is a very classy and professional graphic. Also the overall effort and appearance of the whole OP post is very well researched.

Sorry if it was not nice to jump in and suddenly start talking about Modi's fascism. Next time I see his face I will try to find a nicer way to post the same information.

Also please don't judge any political candidates or other people by my dumb posts. I'm a dummy and constantly spew dumb shit strictly representing only myself.

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

This is the kind of nastiness that could be debated in GDP, but has nothing to do with the candidate except to smear thru association.

What purpose does this serve in advocating for a candidate except to create a more adversarial forum?

It just comes across as trollish.

Sun Aug 2, 2015, 09:04 PM
Aug 2015

President Barack Obama talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India during their bilateral meeting in the Oval Office, Sept. 30, 2014.

As the President and Prime Minister wrote in a joint Washington Post op-ed, "ties between the United States and India are rooted in the shared desire of our citizens for justice and equality" -- and they highlighted the connection between Dr. King and Mahatma Gandhi:

When Swami Vivekananda presented Hinduism as a world religion, he did so at the 1893 World’s Parliament of Religions in Chicago. When Martin Luther King Jr. sought to end discrimination and prejudice against African Americans, he was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s nonviolent teachings. Gandhiji himself drew upon the writings of Henry David Thoreau.
