Moments after Sanders took the stage at Westlake Park, two women and one man climbed the stage and confronted the Democratic presidential candidate, demanding a chance to speak. After several moments of confusion and confrontation, an event organizer took the microphone and said the protesters would be allowed to speak before Sanders. Some in the crowd booed.
One protester, who identified herself as Marissa Johnson, began by saying, I was going to tell Bernie how racist this city is with all of its progressives but youve already done that for me. Thank you.
Johnson spoke, among other things, about police violence in Seattle, mentioning a federal investigation into the city's law enforcement that resulted in the appointment of a monitor to make sure Seattle police were complying with the terms set forth by the Justice Department.
Bernie says that hes all about the people and about grassroots. The biggest grassroots movement in this country right now is Black Lives Matter, she added. She then mentioned the anniversary event that sparked the Black Lives Matter movement the shooting of an unarmed black teenager named Michael Brown by a white police officer in Ferguson, Mo. last year.
Johnson requested four-and-a-half minutes of silence from the crowd, to honor the four-and-a-half hours Brown allegedly laid dead in the street after being killed. Some in the crowd jeered the protesters and yelled get off the stage, but others replied let her talk. At times, shouts of arrest her were audible.
After the four-and-a-half minutes, protesters did not relinquish the stage. "If you care about Black Lives Matter, as you say you do, you will hold Bernie Sanders specifically accountable for his actions," Johnson continued.
She mentioned a similar interruption by Black Lives Matter activists during the annual progressive NetRoots Nation gathering. Protestors flooded the stage early on in the event and shouted down Democratic presidential hopeful Martin O'Malley as well as Sanders.
"Bernie, you were confronted at NetRoots at by black women," Johnson said before adding, "you have yet to put out a criminal justice reform package like OMalley did."
After the protesters and organizers continued the confrontation on stage, Sanders waved to the crowd and walked off the stage.
He entered the crowd to greet supporters, who chanted his name as he shook hands.

Why is "BLM" Protesting against celebration of SS & Medicare?
FROM THE ARTICLE:
The event supporting Social Security and Medicare is one of a sweep of campaign stops Sanders has on the calendar for his swing through Seattle.
Only two hours after the event in Westlake Park was scheduled to end, Sanders is due at an event at the Comet Tavern, a bar close to Seattle's Capitol Hill. Top donors to the "meet-and-greet" event are shelling out $1,000 each to be considered a host, though it's $200 to just get a ticket in.
Later, he'll be having another rally at the University of Washingtons Hec Edmundson Pavilion, which has a maximum capacity of 10,000 people. Local reports say he is due to speak about issues related to money in politics, income inequality, climate change and affordable higher

(3,649 posts)I agree that BLM has it out for Bernie, but there is no proof that the Hillary camp is behind this. Until we get hard evidence suggesting otherwise it is only speculation that supports such arguments.

(84,711 posts)Its getting plain in our face what the Agenda is, there. How could one not question their tactics only against Democrats and one who has worked so hard for Human Rights his whole life and for "Black Lives Matter" back before it was Popular and coined as #Black Lives Matter# for this movement?
Why is "BLM" going after Bernie Sanders when there's a Full "Clown Car of Repubs" needing some EDUCATION!

(891 posts)A couple of weeks ago, several protesters showed up to MOREs offices on North Skinker Boulevard and demanded that the organization release the money.
Protesters said that Ordower then issued checks for $2,750 a piece to 17 protesters.

(891 posts)We had professional riot actors here in Ferguson and then they got mad when they didn't get paid.
Rice said Ordower told the protesters that the money had come from private donors and was supposed to help support the movement.
Protesters provided Ordower with a list of organizations that should receive some of the money. But he rejected it, Rice said, and then delayed meetings with protesters.
On May 14, a group of protesters from different organizations showed up at MOREs offices on North Skinker Boulevard.

(1,290 posts)Things might have gotten a little out of hand, especially with Bernie never getting to speak. The crowd's reaction certainly can't have helped things: hissing and yelling "Arrest Them!" during a MOMENT OF SILENCE FOR VICTIMS OF POLICE MURDERS is obscene and racist.
Bernie probably did OK. Some people in the crowd seems to have made situation much worse for him.

(72,631 posts)If THAT happens... you will have an imploding Democratic Party, in parallel with an Imploding Republican Party.
The hostility toward one another will be palpable, and real.
If the Dems are smart... they will issue a joint statement explaining the dangers to future progress... they will hold some national forum to come to common ground...
And ALL DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES would sign on.

(19,568 posts)There is no reason to attack progressives who have fought against the excess of state authority.
There is no need to attack Sanders on this issue.
