(14,498 posts)It's basically a super-minority of rigid, insistent, obsessive , mega-politically correct space-cases.
They've never understood how to communicate w. people --- let alone *persuade* them, have zero political accomplishments to show for it , and have to take their frustration out on someone.
It reminds me of seeing Angela Davis at the Left Forum in NYC a couple of years ago. Astonishing. Frozen in time. She hasn't grown a single neuron since 1971.
These people are a lot like Angela.
Be embarrassed for DU, but don't take it... or them... so *seriously.*

(52,589 posts)We have open primaries in my state so labels don't matter so much. But this election has the chance of a deeper split in the Democratic Party. Soon they may be able to test their rhetoric regarding progressives or the "too liberals" about having no where else to go.

(15,426 posts)"Ratfucking" was a term used by Richard Nixon's campaign insiders to describe electoral fraud and dirty tricks they used against their opponents. The term was coined by political operative Don Segretti, who claimed it had come from his college days when he stuffed ballot boxes for student government candidates. Segretti was hired by the Committee to Re-elect the President (CREEP) to work his ratfucking magic for Nixon in the 1972 elections and funded by laundered money coming in through CREEP slush funds. Segretti and a number of other ratfuckers worked from CREEP to destroy the campaigns of Democratic opponents. Their methods included distributing faked letter and press releases, astroturfing "activists" and "protestors," disrupting political conferences using the old "order a hundred pizzas in someone else's name" trick, vote contracting (literally paying people for votes), espionage tactics, and general dickery. One of the ratfuckers happened to be Karl Rove, who was the head of the College Republicans at the time (they teach 'em early).
The most infamous incident related to the ratfucking techniques, besides the Watergate break-in itself, was the release of the "Muskie letters." CREEP members had gotten hold of Senator Edmund Muskie's letterhead and started "leaking" letters ostensibly addressed to other Democrats insulting various other Congressmen. One of the Muskie letters, called the "Canuck letter," implied that Muskie was bigoted toward Americans of French-Canadian descent (Muskie was from Maine). This FUD campaign reached its heights right in the middle of the 1972 primaries and Muskie's campaign imploded after his speech denying his authorship of the letters. The Muskie letters were ultimately the starting point that led Washington Post reporters Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward to begin to unravel the Nixon campaign's ratfucking methods and uncover the Watergate break-in.

(24,544 posts)People high fiving Ann Coulter when they're not sliming #BLM in every single possible conceivable way and no one is supposed to notice this?? Pretending that people want Bernie to apologize for being white and male? I haven't seen a Freeper yet that didn't make that same argument about their side, but when it's posted here on DU it's "principled protest" and that's okay?
Sliming and slamming Corey Booker FOR YEARS but the second he says something vaguely nice about Sanders, he's a helluva guy and no one is supposed to notice this? Being more butthurt about people stating the obvious -- that the VAST MAJORITY of Sanders support is from white people -- and calling that "racism" when it's nothing but an acknowledgement of reality?
The same crowd that hated Obama with all their might and called him a corpo-fascist right winger piece of shit Trojan horse are now screaming with glee that the members of the Obama coalition that are donating right now are giving alot of that money to Sanders???
I strongly suspect that the Obama coalition will not donate much to either candidate and that Hillary will get much of her money elsewhere.
The same folks who said that "Bernie had nothing to apologize for" are now using his tweet to set up a meeting with #BLM and the same apology that he said was done without his knowledge or consent as proof of his commitment to #BLM??
Bernie is all over the place right now. But even at his worst he will never be as inconsistent as his supporters. I don't know what to make of these people right now.

(34,589 posts)the same as celebrating that person?
If I agree with Hermann Goering on the following, am I high-fiving him?
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."
Of course not.

Actually no, her supporters continue to try to use those vile tactics, 'white supremicist'? A Jewish Senator whose own family were murdered by Hitler?
If this keeps up, these vicious tactics, even if Hillary were to win the primary, people will not forget them.
So in her own best interests she needs to reign in her supporters.

I don't even disagree with Marissa Johnson on her points about Seattle -- clearly there are real issues there, including racism in the police department and in the education system where black students are routinely given harsher punishments than their white counterparts. But let's not pretend she did not come right out and call a bunch of liberals white supremacists. She did.

(14,591 posts)... use their bully pulpit to help you? I mean: are white progressives useful, or are they not? Make up your minds.
Anyhow, I'm of the opinion that the 15-minute-famer wannabes who trolled Bernie's mic in Seattle aren't necessarily representative of BLM supporters as a whole, who I presume (assume?) to be thoughtful, serious people. But then, I'm not really following them too closely after the Seattle faux pas, or the discussions here at DU. Every Hillary and Bernie thread degenerating into race-baiting and hurt feelings is simply too arduous and non-productive.
Is it still correct that BLM is not a group with a hierarchy or defined leadership? That makes them SO easy to co-opt and SO easy for, well, ANYONE to act in their name.

And choosing to call him and his Progressive supporters "Useless, White Supremacist Liberals" was just them being rude, disgusting and hateful. From what I understand, the Seattle BLM Chapter is BLM. No one in BLM denounced their hateful words.
My response to this OP was mostly because another OP decided to call Bernie supporters "White Privileged Supremacists" again today. More if the same racist Third Way crap. They are the group fueling the racist meme, not Bernie or his supporters.

of consequence or substance except continue the BS whining when it comes to having to deal with AA that will get in an alleged progressives' face and tell them, they we will not be quiet, we will not wait our turn, been waiting for 250 years, nothings happened, we will not listen to your advice as to when, to whom we may and how we speak to issues that affect us, fatally, everyday.......This lily white liberal, progressive whining from BS supporters is getting ludicrous.
The whining against AA actions to protect ourselves from a society that is racist, systemically and institutionally, and lethally violent as a culture toward POC, and then to have to raise hell to try to get attention AND ACTION to the murders and summary executions, of unarmed men, women and children, from our so called "allies" is getting to a point that it is known, "business as usual" and the status quo of the privileged will be maintained.
I laugh derisively at your whining, and understand this, Bernie and Hillary will need us(our vote) before we need someone like you as an "ally". So take your "Lily white ass", your quote, and the rest you said and drive on down the road. See Ya, won't miss ya! Don't need ya!
