Bernie Sanders - WHAT A TERRIBLE PERSON.
Paedophile. Draft Dodger. Racist. Out of Touch. Unelectable. SOCIALIST. White. Male.
SO, so many bad things.
He is only interested in his own opinion. He is Captain Obvious. All his supporters are white males who drive Volvos. He hates black people. Black people hate him, except the nasty black people who don't hate him.
He can't win.
Marxists don't like him.
Also, I don't know if you've noticed, but he's kinda funny-lookin'.
I also hear that he's Jewish NOT THAT I HAVE ANY PROBLEM WITH THAT.
He's old. He's angry. He's a socialist. And he's white. And he's male. And he can't win.
How could anyone vote for him?
And he dodged the draft. And he's a silent warmongerer. He says almost NOTHING about foreign policy. How secretly aggressive is that?!?!?!?! Kinda scary. And hypocritical.
He's got funny glasses. And his voice is weird. And I hear he doesn't have any congressional endorsements, so everyone in Congress hates him, too! He's a troublemaker. He's a maverick.
He has boxes in his garage. Strange boxes. In his garage. Containing mysterious things. Can we doubt that the contents of these strange boxes are sinister?
He has a drink problem. And he's a womaniser. And he probably has a huge bank account somewhere with lots of stolen money in it. And he projects his own faults onto others. And he has a pole-dancing girlfriend. And one of his friends is a rapist.
And...
he's...
a...
N A R C I S S I S T !!!!!!!
YES! A NARCISSIST! And he's pals with Glenn Greenwald! And he's in cahoots with Julian Assange! And he's having sex with Angela Merkel! And when he stands next to spindly trees he looks sinister! And if he coughs, the spittle lands on your cheek! And his socks are mis-matched! And he's UNAMERICAN!!!! And he doesn't drink beer!!! And he hangs out with freaky people! And his mind is a twisty turny labyrinth of darkness!
He's a NARCISSIST!!! OMG, how is it that no-one else can SEE this? Are they all blind? Is this like an episode of the Twilight Zone? He's going to drive us all over the edge of a cliff!
His face is slightly assymetrical! And he's JEWISH, NOT THAT I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT.
And he's jealous! Jealous, jealous, jealous of everyone else's power! HE ONLY WANTS POWER! POWER only for HIMSELF! And he hasn't got any money, except in the huge bank account with stolen money! And he's hypnotising you, YES, hypnotising you with his old world liberal fuddy-duddiness, his faux common decency and his imaginary principles! He's taking you for a ride! DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE.
And he wants to spend YOUR money. And he wants to spend YOUR money. And he wants to spend YOUR money. And he wants to spend it on DRIVING YOU OVER THE EDGE OF A CLIFF.
And he hates Hillary Clinton. And he hates Barack Obama. And he hates Bill Clinton. And he hates Joe Biden.
And he can't win. And he's unelectable. And he's white. And he's male. And he's a NARCISS-
WAIT, WAIT, I thought of something else, he's a MANIPULATOR! He's MANIPULATIVE!
And he's Jewish, NOT THAT I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT.
And he's an ideological purist. And he can't negotiate. And no-one in Congress likes him. And he doesn't have any friends.
He's a NERD.
He's a political NERD.
He's a nerdy, Jewish (not that I have ANY problem with that) NARCISSIST.
And he's a paedophile. And he can't win. Aaaaannnd...

Fact. They are very well aware of children in poverty, theirs are, Fact! They are well aware that they are being murdered by police. Fact! They are unarmed and profiled for their skin color.

(2 posts)This is from Time Magazine about Sanders as a student:
He became leaders of an NAACP ally called the Congress of Racial Equality at a time when most civil rights activists were black. He was arrested while demonstrating for desegregated public schools in Chicago. (No big deal, says Sanders: You can go outside and get arrested, too! he jokes. Its not that hard if you put your mind to it.) He once walked around Chicago putting up fliers protesting police brutality. After half an hour, he realized a police car was following him, taking down every paper hed up, one by one. Are these yours? he remembers the officer telling him, holding up the stack of the fliers.
In his second year at college, Sanders made national news. On a frigid Tuesday afternoon in January, 1962 the 20-year-old from Brooklyn stood on the steps of University of Chicago administration building and railed in the wind against the colleges housing segregation policy. We feel it is an intolerable situation, when Negro and white students of the university cannot live together in university owned apartments, the young bespectacled student told the few-dozen classmates gathered there. Then he led them into the building in protest, and camped the night outside the presidents office. It was Chicagos first civil rights sit-in.
***************
So at 20, he made national news leading a civil rights sit-in against segregation. Not to be rude, but did you do as much when you were 20? Sanders fight against racial inequality has continued his entire life. During the Clinton years, when Democrats started to behave more like moderate Republicans and decided "reform" welfare, Sanders voted against it. He wrote this: "The bill, which combines an assault on the poor, women and children, minorities, and immigrants is the grand slam of scapegoating legislation, and appeals to the frustrations and ignorance of the American people along a wide spectrum of prejudices."
Alternet published "20 Examples of Bernie Sanders' Powerful Record on Civil and Human Rights Since the 1950s" http://www.alternet.org/election-2016/20-examples-bernie-sanders-powerful-record-civil-and-human-rights-1950s
I think what's troubling for some Sanders' supporters is that somehow a narrative was developed that Sanders doesn't care. In fact, there's not a single candidate who would do more to fight racial injustice. If you want to learn about Sanders' positions, go to http://www.feelthebern.org.

She stands for women and there very basic rights to chose. We have been fighting for our lives for a hundred plus years. We got to vote, yet our vote never seems to get us our rights. Don't condescend to me rhett. I am so tired of hearing OLIGARCHS as a mantra.

My comment is one that I often use to point out to Clinton supporters that they are siding with the 1% and not the 99%. H. Clinton is a member of the 1% club. She regularly visits with Goldman-Sachs and other Wall Street friends. Her campaign is anticipating that they will raise between 1 and 2 billion dollars FROM THE 0.01% to buy her the WH thanks to Citizens United.
Ironic how Citizens United is now her friend.

I say we but I am NOT a libertarian, but many here are.
AT first I thought it cute or funny that privileged white libertarian males on DU would repeatedly lecture Black people about their own experiences, something they know absolutely nothing about, but it is getting tiring now.
Never met a modern libertarian that was so fixated on raising taxes on the wealthy, taxing Wallstreet, going after large corporations, raising taxes, raising the minimum wage, increasing social security, increasing funding for education, raising taxes (yeah I said it again), etc.
Your attempt to label Bernie supporters as libertarians has failed.

Do I accuse them of "lecturing?"
No.
I point out why I accept or do not accept their arguments.
Basically the information system you are creating is one where no one can ever give you any data about what a politician did or did not do or what they do or do not support.

(55,981 posts)good friends with Goldman-Sachs, one of the worst of the crooked banks. Clinton may honestly want to reduce poverty but she will only at the expense of the middle class. IMO she will never do anything to reduce the growing profits of Goldman-Sachs and the Wall Street Gangsters.
Dragonfli
(10,622 posts)She is also fond of the practice of leaving brown kids toys to play with via the fun high tech pinatas known as cluster bombs. Those are expensive little toys those things spread around for children to play with, it takes a special kinda person to do whatever they can to make sure there will not be less of them to play with.
Arabic speaking children require special love and Hillary by far has shown them so much of that special love.
Eko
(7,281 posts)"fond of the practice of leaving brown kids toys to play with via the fun high tech pinatas known as cluster bombs." Can you please show where she is fond of this?
Dragonfli
(10,622 posts)Eko
(7,281 posts)does that show she is fond of kids playing with cluster bombs? That is like saying Sanders is fond of kids playing with guns because he wont vote to outlaw them.
Dragonfli
(10,622 posts)You might have had a point if there was a vote to outlaw guns and we could see who did not vote to outlaw them along with all the republicans which would be the only way to draw a comparison. but no such vote has yet to be taken, the cluster bomb vote was.
Even after wars subside, after treaties are signed, after belligerents return home, cluster bombs wreak havoc on civilian life. Up to 20 percent of the bomblets fail to detonate on the first round, only to become landmines that later explode on playgrounds and farmlands. Children are drawn to cluster bomb canisters, the deadly duds that look like beer cans or toys before they explode.
I suppose you can tell me why she opposed the international communities efforts to address this, other than she has a fondness for cluster bombs that are known largely for exactly what they are known for?
Is it instead "to appear tough"
"to get financial support from the munitions industry"
"for no particular reason at all, just plain didn't bother to listen when the effects were explained in detail to her and the rest of the voting body"?
I do not think I overstated it one bit, anyone defending her fondness for such munitions to me are either just as fond of such carnage or simply just as cold when it comes to such gruesome matters that involve the effects of children playing with the "toys" left by them.
Eko
(7,281 posts)I really really do. I hope he becomes president. I will vote for him. I am just amazed at the lengths some people will go to paint Clinton as some kind of monster. So, here I go, I am sure I will be attacked for this, but,,,,,Sanders voted against the Brady bill in 1993. https://www.govtrack.us/congress/votes/103-1993/h614. We are just talking abut background checks here and restricting felons access to guns, not even banning guns, but keeping them out of the hands of criminals and the insane and it would be really easy for me to say that he has a fondness for criminals and the insane to have guns based on your logic. That is faulty logic, dishonest logic, and downright despicable. So, stop. You are not helping anyone at all.
Dragonfli
(10,622 posts)Wednesday, April 17, 2013
WASHINGTON, April 17 Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) today voted for expanded background checks on gun buyers and for a ban on assault weapons but the Senate rejected those central planks of legislation inspired by the shootings of 20 first-grade students and six teachers in Newtown, Conn.
Nobody believes that gun control by itself is going to end the horrors we have seen in Newtown, Conn., Aurora, Colo., Blacksburg, Va., Tucson, Ariz. and other American communities, Sanders said. There is a growing consensus, however, in Vermont and across America that we have got to do as much as we can to end the cold-blooded, mass murders of innocent people. I believe very strongly that we also have got to address the mental health crisis in our country and make certain that help is available for people who may be a danger to themselves and others, Sanders added.
The amendment on expanded background checks needed 60 votes to pass but only 54 senators voted for it. To my mind it makes common sense to keep these weapons out of the hands of people with criminal records or mental health histories, Sanders said....

http://www.sanders.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/sanders-votes-for-background-checks-assault-weapons-ban
Description of the Assault Weapons Ban:
The legislation bans the sale, transfer, manufacturing and importation of:
All semiautomatic rifles that can accept a detachable magazine and have at least one military feature (e.g. pistol grip, detachable stock, grenade launcher).
All semiautomatic pistols that can accept a detachable magazine and have at least one military feature (e.g. threaded barrel, a semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm).
All semiautomatic rifles and handguns that have a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.
All semiautomatic shotguns that have a folding, telescoping, or detachable stock; pistol grip; fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 5 rounds; ability to accept a detachable magazine; forward grip; grenade launcher or rocket launcher; or shotgun with a revolving cylinder.
All ammunition feeding devices (magazines, strips, and drums) capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.
157 specifically-named firearms.

Eko
(7,281 posts)"Requires a background check on all sales or transfers of a grandfathered assault weapon." and not "background checks be conducted on individuals before a firearm may be purchased from a federally licensed dealer, manufacturer or importer" as the brady bill does. Big difference. Not sure if you can see it though.
cui bono
(19,926 posts)they believe, and Vermont is a state that likes its guns to a degree.
I do not believe that Hillary was representing the interests of her constituents when she voted for cluster bombs.
Eko
(7,281 posts)Sanders and Vermont have a fondness for felons and the insane to have guns, and somehow that makes it right because Vermont agrees with him. Once again this is using your logic and is expressly not something I believe, I believe the exact opposite, just using your logic.
cui bono
(19,926 posts)But you go ahead and keep up that pretzel logic of your own.
I thought that was dragonfli responding. I would ask that you clarify that neither has a fondness for cluster bombs or guns.
Eko
(7,281 posts)is that you either probably did not know this or you just shrugged it off. Either one shows a lack of critical thinking that is sorely missed in today's politics. Instead you used language that is vitriolic and dishonest against the person you are against. How does that make you any different than the other side? If you have to cheat and smear someone then you are no better than the tea party, and actually more damaging to our side because the other side is not dumb no matter what you want to think and you give them ammunition. If you did not know then you are blindly following a candidate without really knowing that candidate. With friends like you, I don't need any enemies. I wonder how long before this post is hidden? Whatever.
Dragonfli

(10,622 posts)Your apologia over not only a pro war individual, but your lack of concern over the effects of cluster-bombs on civilians tells me all I need to know about you. If you do not condemn such needless death your stance need not be spoken out loud.
I also have a real problem with hybrid democrats that may make fine allies on social issues but have sold us out and joined the right on fiscal matters that have made my neighborhood poor and placed many I know in homeless situations.
I have no patience or forgiveness for such Democratic hybrids and speak openly about how I consider such the enemy of my class.
I wrote clearly about these types in an OP: New Democrats, The DLC and the Third Way.
If you really want to know anything about me before deciding wrongly what I think is important just read my journal. It is not long,
I have been here over ten years but do not post often but post honestly, it is not a long read.
Eko
(7,281 posts)apology over anything, once again you put words in my mouth and confirm everything I believe about you. If you want to know my viewpoints on war or cluster bombs you are welcome to ask although they present nothing towards the argument we are having. I have yet to present a defense to anyone at all, including Clinton of Sanders. Once again you accuse me of something I have not done and expose your dishonest line of attack.
Eko
(7,281 posts)I will say I do not support Clintons cluster bomb stance, I also think there should be a mandatory background check on all firearms purchased so I do not support Sanders on this. I can easily say Clinton is as fond of children playing with cluster bombs as Sanders is as fond of felons and the insane having guns seeing as how both voted against these and be logically sound on both issues, you cant. I am sure you wont get it, as you have a definite agenda and will probably ascribe some other viewpoint I have not stated or do not hold to further your argument. Like I said , I don't need enemies with you around. If you change your mind, by all means join us in the rational court, otherwise, smear, lie, tell me what I have said when I have not said it, and ascribe positions I dont carry to further your agenda. Thanks.
Eko
(7,281 posts)that is loosing an argument that implies the other has a stance they have not taken. Thanks for playing. Like I have said, I dont need any enemies if you are on my side. You are more than enough. Logic is something I recommend you study.

No one, and I mean no one, in the establishment wants Bernie in the general election, and if he does get there, the throbbing corporate-owned propaganda organ we call the media will black him out - they will use the word 'socialist' over and over and over and over, but they won't once talk about what Bernie says on the issues.
Maybe it is foolish, but I'm an idealist by nature, and I'm tilting at this windmill one more time, because I really hate how politicians who supposedly represent my interests don't even think about any of us after we've elected them.

(7,804 posts)It is the bold-facedness of their attitude that I find so contemptible.
The disgusting cynicism of trying to whip up bogus drivel about Bernie supporters... I could sort of understand their smearing of Bernie himself, as there is the (utterly soul-dead) concept of "fair game" in some political circles but the sheer recklessness of alienating a whole chunk of the Democratic base just to get the right candidate would be unforgivable to me if I were American. It shows a paucity of good judgement that would lose elections big time if anyone tried it in my little country. I don't make that statement idly - they did attempt to smear the Scots and they paid for it.
Their candidate might still win, of course, but the games being played here will not be forgotten and they do not understand what they are doing.
How they can possibly expect anyone to believe that there's anything even vaguely alarming at this stage about the possibility of a Republican administration is completely indecipherable to me, that carnival of nonsense is dead in the water. We need moderates to see them off? EXCREMENT.
The "wrong candidate" story is one thing - "you're all elitists" is what I'd expect from Glen Beck, not Democrats.
FOUL.
Thank you, sir.

Kissinger and Murdoch just for starters) and they seem to think she's the pope, Mandela, Gandhi and the Dalai Lama all rolled together and topped with a sprinkling of saints. I have never in my adult life - Ford was president when I turned 18 - seen such nauseating and delusional behavior from Democrats. Ever.
I support Bernie so strongly because of what he stands for. If Liz Warren were running instead of him I'd support her for exactly the same reason.
No Clinton has EVER had one more principle than self-advancement by whatever means are around to be put to that purpose.

(11,573 posts)Perhaps you could adopt Bernie once he's out of the Dem primary. He probably shouldn't wear a kilt, though.
sibelian
(7,804 posts)My mother's from London.
Bernie has a brother Larry in the UK already. He ran as a Green party candidate.
Bernie may wear a kilt if he swears undying loyalty to my clan. Otherwise NEVER!!!
A characteristic of the Highland clan system was that clansmen felt loyalty only to God, their monarch, and their Chief. The Jacobite Risings demonstrated the dangers to central government of such warrior Highland clans, and as part of a series of measures the government of King George II imposed the "Dress Act" in 1746, outlawing all items of Highland dress including kilts (although an exception was made for the Highland Regiments) with the intent of suppressing highland culture. The penalties were severe; six months' imprisonment for the first offense and seven years' transportation for the second. The ban remained in effect for 35 years.
Thus, with the exception of the Army, the kilt went out of use in the Scottish Highlands, but during those years it became fashionable for Scottish romantics to wear kilts as a form of protest against the ban. This was an age that romanticized "primitive" peoples, which is how Highlanders were viewed. Most Lowlanders had viewed Highlanders with fear before 1745, but many identified with them after their power was broken. The kilt, along with other features of Gaelic culture, had become identified with Jacobitism, and now that this had ceased to be a real danger it was viewed with romantic nostalgia.
Once the ban was lifted in 1782, Highland landowners set up Highland Societies with aims including "Improvements" (which others would call the Highland clearances) and promoting "the general use of the ancient Highland dress". The Celtic Society of Edinburgh, chaired by Walter Scott, encouraged lowlanders to join this antiquarian enthusiasm. Also in Ireland, any form of Gaelic customs was outlawed by the Penal laws.

Anyone, and I mean ANYONE, who posts here claiming that her Iraq vote is some kind of deal breaker-- that she is some kind of war monger who supported the death of hundreds of thousands of people-- is exactly as you can plainly see.
But that's OK. It's an insular few that find validation in every right-wing meme ever flung at Hillary. And who now are martyred because their champion of the season now enjoys a bit of national campaign scrutiny.
